But thats not true and you know it. We will still look for a "younger" and "better" coach.
Kippy would be coaching on a 1 year contract yearly that depends solely on the success of the team. If we win, we'll still look for someone to bring in as a coach-in-waiting, and if we lose, we'll complain about him being Head Coach because he was a desperation move.
I am not saying give him 2 years and kick him out the door i am saying give him a chance to see what he can do if he dose good he stays if not we start looking agin when we have time to get the right guy. not just a guy..
I think you should take him as the interim just to hold the fort for awhile until you get THE guy. Kep the committs who will stay anyway. Run like a Bowden/Jimbo Fisher thing for the next season and let the new guy ease into recruiting and establish relationships etc. Your going to lose some recruits but you can always use those ships next year for a bigger class.
Brown has been loyal. It isn't fair to him to push him into the deep end as a stop-gap caretaker. If we MUST resort to a stop-gap, use Fulmer. Allow Brown to grow into a true head coach and reward him at that time.
You wouldn't place such restrictions on any other coach - nor is it likely that a legitimate coach would agree to come here under those terms.
Case in point: Cut just refused a job that he's likely wanted for 25+ years because they wouldn't let him bring his entire staff.
So, why would you want to place these on Kippy?
Considering that he was or might be the 4th or 5th choice, I think its clear the AD doesnt see him as a legitimate HC anyway. He might have the best option possible doing it this way. That is, if he has time to show that he can run the program and improve it before they find anyone else, he might work his way into the HC job. As it is, he might be unemployed anyway. If he is the Vol die hard everyone says he is, then making such a sacrifice might not be a big deal to him.
Andre Johnson just called the Sports Animal and spoke very highly of Kippy. He's biased, of course.
