Curious to see what everyone’s thoughts out on the rotation are, last year Barnes pretty much played the same 8 guys every night and then sprinkled in 2 more guys that varied on a game by game basis, so you had 12 guys appear in games but typically only going 10 deep in each game.

I think this year your main 8 will be: Bone, Bowden, Turner, Schofield, Williams, Alexander, Pons and Walker...leaving Johnson, Fulk and Kent to compete for those last few minutes and foul trouble minutes and Burns redshirting imo.

My take...

PG: Jordan Bone 30/ Lamonte Turner 10
SG: Jordan Bowden 24/Lamonte Turner 16
SF: Admiral Schofield 20/Yves Pons 15/Jordan Bowden 5
PF: Grant Williams 30/Admiral Schofield 10
C: Kyle Alexander 26/Derrick Walker 14

Total minutes:
Williams 30
Schofield 30
Bone 30
Bowden 29
Turner 26
Alexander 26
Pons 15
Walker 14

I think Johnson & Fulk will consistently be the 9th & 10th guys off the bench, and I think Kent will almost certainly play the least amount of total minutes of all 11.

What’s everyone think?

I think Fulk will definitely be in the 10 minute range and I HOPE JJ is, too. Seems like Barnes appreciates how Fulk practices and will continue to reward him with minutes, especially if he is completely healthy and back to '16 level Fulk

Seems accurate to me. I think Alexander and Walker might be a little closer in minutes.

Burns redshirting?

I'd reduce Bone and Bowden's total minutes and increase Lamonte and Alexander's total minutes. Other than that, I'd say you are spot on.

Walker may get more minutes than Pons simply because he can play both PF and C if needed.

Fulk seems like a matchup play. I think he has a lot of potential but is more of a 4. Wouldn’t be surprised either way with him if he plays a lot or little.

Johnson by all reports seems to perform well in practice. Maybe we can see some of it translate in games.

We also might whip enough teams where these guys get a lot of garbage minutes this year.

Kent is the wildcard because we haven’t seen him play. I’ll assume that continues.

If you give those 2 guys 20+ total minutes where do you take those minutes from?

Barnes loves him some Bowden, and he averaged 28mpg last year, so I don’t see his minutes dropping.

I'd like to see some experimenting with a 2 platoon substitution pattern.

Starters:
Bone
Bowden
Schofield
Williams
Alexander

2nd unit:
Turner
Johnson
Pons
Fulkerson/Kent
Walker/Burns

Not every game. Not all game long. But that 2nd group is likely playing a lot together in practice. It could be used to keep the intensity up and maybe wear down some opponents, especially those that have a short bench.

I like it, TGO. Probably, very possible in some ooc games and of course, the more successful it is, the more we may see it

Burns could play next Wednesday and still RS, correct?
I love Burns game, but with this team, a redshirt year would probably be ideal. I've said this before, but I think Burns has a little bit of Kevin McHale in his game. Not necessarily a high-riser, but fundamentally sound with a nice touch from the free throw line in. Of course, I'm only going on highlight videos, but I think he will be damn good in a couple of years.

Agreed. Barnes player development is off the charts and the college level weight room/diet should do wonders for all that baby fat he seemed to carry in high school

I think Johnson gets minutes at small forward and as the third option at shooting guard if there is foul trouble.

I hope Jordan has improved his 2-pt shooting and can be a more consistent scorer this year. His FG% last year were lower than his 3-pt %.

Looks pretty spot on to me. Maybe a little more time for Alexander. His impact on this team last year can not be understated.

Especially in the Loyola loss. 2 more rebounds 2 more blocked shots and we'd have probably brought it home.

One thing about it we'll be a lot more versatile this season with the added depth. We can even put a twin tower rotation on the floor with Kent at the key passing to Kyle at the bucket. Going to be fun seeing what they come up with.
