I won't speak for @bpalmer28 , but I'll generalize the sentiment I perceived from most of the regular FF members. What did you think the next few seasons would look like when we were 8-0 in 2022? Be honest.
Elko walked into an absolutely stacked roster with one of the highest NIL budgets in the countryMcAfee just said on Gameday “in year two, Mike Elko has A&M ahead of schedule” with the rebuild.
Heupel had us in the same spot in his second season: undefeated after eight games and ranked in the top 3.
Does that mean we’re now behind schedule, or that 2022 was a fluke?
lol. This isn’t your typical Vandy team. Any other year I would say you are right. But losing to this Vandy wouldn’t be grounds for putting Heupel in the hot seat.
Don't be so depressing, there is some good football left to play. Let's shoot for a top 5 recruiting class.2025 Tennessee has failed to do many things:
End streak with Georgia
End losing streak in Tuscaloosa
Make playoff and or Atlanta
Only one meaningful goal left, win in Gainesville and end that streak. Heupel should already start coaching for that game because New Mexico doesn't mater.
Apples and tractor tires comparison…. Shouldn’t even try.McAfee just said on Gameday “in year two, Mike Elko has A&M ahead of schedule” with the rebuild.

I haven’t read all the replies so forgive me if someone touched on this already.
I understand your point, but the last paragraph tells me there are still meaningful achievements to be had. Beating Florida in the a swamp is rare, even when we have the better team. That would be an achievement.
And even though they’ve had a great year by their standards, a win over Vandy to remind everyone that they are still little sister — that would be worthwhile in my opinion.
Oh, if we lost to New Mexico you would lose your mind. Every game is important.2025 Tennessee has failed to do many things:

Can Joey come back next year? Based on my review of the Pavia ruling it's possible. That ruling would have even given Pavia the option to play next year, but he has said he won't. That is my understanding. Joey is in a very similar situation. If he is available, do we even want him? Our freshmen will move on if they can't play next year, so we will either go with one of them or the portal otherwise. This season seems the best opportunity in a long time to end the Swamp Curse. Got to finally end that one and work on Ga and playoff next season.
Even that all the goals you posted were not met, if this team finishes 9-3 it will still be a successful season due to ending the Curse and ruining Vandy season.
Got to get the QB situation sorted out for next season and fix the D. Some staff changes may be needed for that.
This team still has a shot at finishing the season with a 10-3 record after the bowl game. That would be 3 10 win seasons in the last 4 years.2025 Tennessee has failed to do many things:

Interesting. This is what you said last week:pretty much exactly how it’s turned out. we have one of the best programs in college football. on pace for another 10 win season
I’m all for Faizon being the man but we need to get a QB in portal. Another Joey, a solid one year guy while Faizon and Gmac continue to develop.Recruiting classes mean nothing now. You don't keep all those players anymore. The bread and butter is in the transfer portal and Heupel is worlds away there.
