One program changing development

So Smart was their guy? A first time HC to replace a HOF coach? I wonder if UGAs top picks for coaches turned them down? I find it hard to believe that Smart was their top choice.

Smart was their choice.
Georgia blood and up and comer in Saban system.

I’m not sure he will end up being a good choice.
Most Saban assistants aren’t.

What disappoints me most about this season is how the QB and offensive scheme has been handled.
Butchs system depends greatly on at least the threat that the QB will occasionally keep the ball.
It doesn't take a genius to see that QD is not comfortable doing so.
So, if you think that starting QD gives you the best opportunity to win, why wouldn't you change the system to fit QD's skill set.
If you are not willing to change that, why not start JG, who supposedly is more mobile and willing to run.
Just my .02.

I wholeheartedly agree....IF, and it's a big if, we don't squander the opportunity to potentially upgrade. Waiting until we wither on the vine as a program again is more than I can stand.

I absolutely agree! But alas, I have a sneaking suspicion they'll make the wrong choice again.

I know it was only 9-1-2, but that is still prob my favorite season ever. Crushing Miami's championship dreams, the battle of New Orleans Tennessee song, Beating #1 Auburn, beating a ranked Bama, blanking KY and Vandy then destroying Miami.......man that was the frekin season........I know I know not the best Tennessee season, but my favorite.

I agree. We spanked Miami in that Sugar Bowl game. Hoping for the same this weekend...unlikely.

Because if we started JG, we are likely 1-3 right now (based on his performance on the field). Agree we should have tweaked the scheme to better fit QD but that kid has shown poise and led us to the 4th qtr comeback win over Georgia Tech and tied the score with Florida (give credit to JK there)

UGA is good this year. Legit SEC good. Top 10 in the nation good, and without media bias. Many of us believe with good coaching we could win, and vegas odds say we aren't too crazy.

I am ready to fire Butch if he doesn't beat a top ten team at home, and so are many of you....

Now think back and ask yourself if that isn't a big damn step from where we were in the last 10 years.

We can compete. We expect to win. We are pissed at Butch because he gave us belief we deserve more, and the talent to feel entitiled to it.

Win or lose Saturday I embrace the future because we are finally turning the corner.
So what’s the program changing development?

look...pray...get pissed...whatever you feel is appropriate, but we play the DAWGS this Saturday, so get everything else out of the way and pull for our team to beat down the DAWGS...do what we were born to do...:)

GO VOLS...BEAT THE DAWGS...:clapping::pepper::yahoo:

Five years ago we were hoping to keep games respectable.

No, we are upset because we are praying for a miracle against a program we used to be better than.

Things have lined up nicely for the Dogs. Fromm is as good as billed so far, they have the 2 senior NFL-bound RBs (highly unusual), and the D is well stocked.

Can't blame Butch for that.

But for some bad luck with Worley's injury, Dobbs would be back and we'd be miles ahead of where we are.

No, we are pissed at Butch because he has recruited at a pace similar to those at the top of this league but has delivered middle of the road results in conference.

Everyone basically says this.. BUT I DISAGREE.

Current Position groups that arent SEC CALIBER

WR - except callaway who we wont throw too
QBS- id take any qb in sec over ours
LB - not even close
DT- inconsistent cant stay healthy
OLINE- lololololol what a joke
DBs - terrible cant break up passes
Kicker- inconsistent

Groups that are
RB - all studs
Safetys- good play mostly
Punter- excellent job, 2nd best player on team

Now hes supposedly has had all these GREAT recruiting classes. Not seeing it. Compare us to last year.... Where exactly are we better except safety?????????

I think on paper we have good classes, but I think many are busts and there is no player development.

Just tired of hearing hes a great recruiter, no hes not. How do we not have better talwnt at every position group then???????

Ive been a jones supporter since beginning.. And ok with coaching change IF ITS AN UPGRADE. Dont fire jones and hire the friggin guy from Tulsa..

All of this is predicated on the idea that UGA is elite and Vegas isn't expecting a whooping?

Wait for the outcome of the game, if UGA is as good as you want them to be then it probably won't be close.

His problem isn't recruiting, it's developing players. You can bring in high ranked recruits left and right but if you don't coach them up they languish in your system. You've really just illustrated my point in a round of bout way. These really good players either don't stay or don't progress and develop.

The recruiting services didn't just miss on all those 4* and 5* players on our roster. If our roster was being coached up by a competent staff they would probably run away with the East. The problem is player development.

Remember when people were making fun of Kirby Smart being hired at Georgia??? He is most likely gonna do in 2 years what CBJ couldn't do in 5. Have a Top 10 team

Not only injuries but also highly ranked players left the program. Just don't think Butch is up to SEC standard. I believe he tries to run a good program but he is not the right coach to get Tennessee back to where they belong.

The season is already marred and tainted by losing to Florida.....AGAIN! We can hope to scrape some dignity with beating Georgia. ...Lsu. ..and everyone outside Bama. ...but Florida is the massive game he needs to win...and its already lost. His utter failure to beat them more than once is why he SHOULD be on the hotseat no matter what happens.

If Butch can't get it done and we make the right hire, we can immediately be in contention not just for the East but for the SEC title with this roster. It's been a long time since that has happened, last time was the Majors-Fulmer transition.

Majors won two of his 3 SEC titles in 1989 and 1990...so our current situation is a little different...of course majors started with a similar train wreck to what Butch started with but I doubt fans will give Butch 9 years to win his first title...Johnny was a Tennessee boy so he was given more time...

We're not going to be hiring another Derek Dooley, every coach available that we would consider will be at least as good as Butch. 5yrs we may still be at 8-4 though which could be just as bad because that 102,455 seat stadium won't be filling up anymore if that's going on
