On field results lead to big recruits?

Mizzou, Kentucky, UAB, South Carolina, and Mississippi State?
Awe inspiring?
Yeah that's where we're at right now. Considering we were counting Miss State a loss, uscjr, KY, and Mizzou toss-ups before the season, and dropping our first 2 games, I'd say we should be content with that. We should be finishing 9-3 right now. Who did you expect to beat this year?

You betcha. , 100 % true after the 0-2 start and hitting rock bottom. We will finish 7-3 with the only losses to top 10 teams with UT being competitive in two of them.

Well we've lost some top prospects to LSU, GA, and Auburn. All of which have a better record than us right now. A couple others decided to stay close to home. I don't think this has any bearings on our coaches recruiting ability. We've still got some top prospects in the mix who aren't committing til the end of their season. We'll see what happens.
Agreed

Don't get carried away at this time... I speculate we have not been pushing for commits at several positions pending on how we finished up down the stretch..... a late win streak might get us some guys higher up our board. We shall see. BUT in the meantime by the service that has us ranked 20 at this time we have more 4 stars than 7 of the teams ranked higher. ALSO this staff has a couple of 3 stars with things you cannot coach speed and extreme size that could parlay their strengths into high level players.... I do not head toward the bridge with 3 stars this far ahead of signing days..... The last few games for example one of our longest REACHES from recent years, K. Garland, has been involved in some significant plays.

So I would advise you wait before you queue up the Hew Haw gang with the theme song of "Gloom, despair and agony on me",,,, certainly to early for the "deep dark depression excessive misery"....

In fact you cannot even throw the switch after early signing day if a bunch of talent waits till February or we use up all our schollies...
+1 for the hee haw reference!

Dude, we can still sign NINE recruits if I am remembering correctly! Are you another of the people on this site that gripe and whine about recruiting without understanding how the ranking system even works?
I know enough to know that it's not going well. Things can change though and I'm hopeful we can flip some guys.

Awe inspiring? Seriously? Your standards are truly pathetic. South Carolina, UAB, Kentucky and Missouri. Yeah. Truly awe inspiring.

I see what your saying. It hurts considering 15 years ago these guys would have been cupcakes. With that said, we could have lost any of these games right now. So.....there’s that

Tennessee is on an awe inspiring win streak. So let’s not over speculate or start rumors but I do have a simple question:
With the way we are winning and the recruiting pedigrees of this staff (Pruitt. Ansley, and T. Martin alone are known as bomb national recruiters) why are we ranked 20 nationally?

If Butch can get guys to come here after showing year over year he cannot develop talent- I’m excited to see how well we could develop 4&5 star talent with these coaches who are known for player development.
Couple of things I hope you will consider.

One, if I'm Pruitt I'm selling the improvements made in individual players. Come to UT and you are going to get coached up by the best staff in the business.

Two, UT has a history of getting the wrong 4/5* players. Guys who bust. Guys who were never that good to start with. Are you old enough to remember Chris Donald? He was a "prize" recruit that UT beat Notre Dame out for. Eventually he landed at UTC.... and couldn't become a full time starter there either. Contrast that to Warren Burrell who was a 3* who would have started ahead of A Taylor at CB if he hadn't gotten injured.

Unlike Jones and Dooley, Pruitt is a football coach and knows how to recognize football players. I am much less worried about "stars" with him choosing who to sign than I was with previous coaches.

My point exactly. We have an all star recruiting staff so why only 20?
Because its November and we have a small class this year. Trust me it will go higher before its all over but a lot of people don't get that rankings are not a simple and 1-25 class sizes matter in the way a lot of the sites calculate their ratings. Its why schools that sign a lot of 3 and 4 stars early will have early leads then by drop signing day. Our recruiting class has pretty much always been ranked higher at the end of the year than around this time of year because the big schools always have a few surprises at the end.

We lost to GSU and BYU after that the way we strung together wins is awe inspiring.
Not for the CFB world it isn't. Beating those teams is certainly a good turn around for us but not many people notice.

Also, it's hard to believe that many ITT don't realize that other teams have recruiters on their staff as well and some very good ones too. Fact of the matter is we lost our mojo out of the starting gate and that turned off guys we won't get back like Rakim Jarrett, Arik Gilbert, BJ Ojulari, Savelle Smalls and some others. Now we have to hope we hit on some Dooley diamonds.

Remember every single productive player that is leaving this year wasn't recruited by Pruitt and staff. Jennings, Calloway, Trey Smith and Nigel Warrior were all Butch recruits. I don't see guys waiting in the wings with that kind of talent and we certainly don't see it on on the committment list right now.

Not sure who Missouri is going after, but they undoubtedly had recruits at the game last night. Sometimes the best recruiting is when you play good on the road. Even though we lost to Bama, those that witnessed the effort (hardest game Bama had up to that point) could perhaps be swayed. As OP states - wins down the stretch can relate to recruiting victories. Poor Derek Mason.. Can you imagine a recruit's official visit to the ETSU game and there were more people in the band than in the crowd.
No vandy fan and Mason is well paid,I'll shed no tears for him,BUT the kids playing that game deserved better. Whoever organized and participated in the no show should be reaping bad Karma for years to come.

The stat to pay attention to is avg star rating. That is a better gauge for any class. Sadly we will be middle of conference again.

Agree 100% I don’t know how they’ve been as good as they have been. Got to be a tough gig!

True in both regards. However, people overplay the middle of the conference negativity. If we were a Big Ten school or something like that mid-conference would be terrible. In the SEC the difference between 4-10 isn't that big. It's those top 3 that really rake it in until we get to that level and this gonna require WINNING to consistently get top 10 classes again. Dooley and Jones kinda squandered away a lot of the equity we had. We have to earn our way back.
But seriously think about that when your team can be top 15-20 in recruiting but the middle of the pack in their 14 team conference that says more about your conference strength than your recruiting failures.

One reason I think most are forgetting is that we still have 9 (I think) slots open. Many of those we are saving for bluechips we are at least in the hunt for (Darnell, Tyler Baron, etc). We are "warm" on Darnell (5*)+ 8 4*s +9 3*s. We grab Darnell and just half of the 4*s we are after and we will be fine indeed.

Yep considering we were outscored by Mizzou 100-34 in the last 2 games and had lost 3 in a row to USC . Have to beat these these teams, and Vandy this week, before we can beat Alabama, UGA and UF.
