Hello Vols was just lurking on your board seeing yalls thoughts on the weekend and came across this question so figured I would signup and help out real quick.
You will not be able to park on campus. About 3 years ago now they changed it to where you have to have a PASS to park ANYWHERE on campus. Used to most parts of campus were open parking on Gamedays.
I have also heard that The Square will tow on Gameday if cars are left all day. I cannot answer this because in my 8 years of driving/parking in Oxford i have never tried to do this. Just wanted to leave a warning.
The best place/safest place to park in Oxford was like someone else said in the University Mall parking lot off of Jackson Avenue. Pretty large lot with free parking (no passes or anything needed) AND there are shuttles that go to and from campus like every 10 minutes. The shuttle drops off right at the Quad then a quick 5-7 minute walk to The Grove. You can take coolers and other items you may have for tailgating with you on the shuttle.
Remember when it comes to alcohol BEER IS NOT ALLOWED IN GROVE. But liquor/wine/champagne is. Now thats not saying that no one drinks beer in Grove but it must be kept in a cup and fairly secretive. But you dont have to worry about whipping out a bottle of Jack or Makers and pouring one.
This is more of an issue to opposing fans that dont know this rule. I watched 2 Arky fans have to pour out 48 Buds at 10Am out of their cooler into the grass one at a time because they opened their cooler and cracked one open in range of a cop.
Sorry for the wall of text I just know how it can be going to a road game and not knowing where to go exactly. If yall have any other questions ill do my best to answer them. Looking forward to Saturday hoping for a good injury free game :hi:
What are some must see/must do for 1st timers in oxford? Excited about.going! I hear they have some pretty women too!
Is this at 1111 Jackson Avenue West? If so, it looks like it is just across form Fraternity Row. How quickly does the lot fill up or how early do you need to get there for a spot?
Thanks for your tips!
You probably won't have much time to explore much other than the restaurants and bars, so I'll break down some of the bars:
The Library - this is the biggest & most popular bar in Oxford and will be the most crowded. It has 3 sections: sports bar, music hall and patio with a retractable roof. If you go after the game, there will be a steep cover (anywhere from $20-40) and will be really crowded. Will be free during the day. Definitely has the best eye candy but will also be the most expensive and a pain.
During Bama weekend covers reached $60. But if you wanna go get down and dirty with your dancing shoes this is the 100% place to be
Boure - Probably the best balcony & view in Oxford. Good drinks. Will be slammed.
my favorite
Rib Cage - Upstairs and a basement, cheap drinks and beers, pretty decent food. I will say it will be crowded but everywhere will be. It will be slightly less crowded than elsewhere.
Proud Larry's - Few doors down from the Cage. It's one of my favorite bars and will have some good live music after the game (probably will be $10 cover for the tunes). Isn't very big and will be crowded.
Frank & Marlee's - Right down the alley from Larry's. Has a really awesome porch, but will be filled with mostly undergrads. Good drink prices. In the basement there is a 2nd bar and DUELING PIANOS...come on now everyone loves that. Was a go to place for me when i lived in Oxford
The Corner - Will probably be filled with a lot of obnoxious 18-22 year olds.
Burgundy Room - Upstairs bar of Old Venice Pasta. Great balcony but it's tiny.
City Grocery - couple doors down from Burgundy. Older crowd. This is where the writers, hipsters and law school kids hang out but on game day, anything goes. Probably the best bar tenders in town. Balcony about the same size as Burgundy (tiny).
Ajax - Great soul food. Bar is nothing great but decent place to grab a beer. Also a semi-hipster hangout.
Blind Pig - Is in a basement off the Square. Really good beer selection, lots of TVs. Has a few pool tables and had a nice band when we were there for Bama, will be less crowded as well
Also going to add
FUNKYS- I highly recommend Funkys. If you saw the video of Katy Perry chuggin beer and crowd surfing this is where she was. Its a pizza/frozen daiquiri bar. Looks like youre on Bourbon street with the frozen machines behind the bar. (Ask for a Miley Cyrus its a mix of EVERY flavor of daiquiri plus 2 extra shots of liquor. It will hit you like a wrecking ball:thud
Roosters- On the corner across from Boure. Its upstairs has a good long balcony and fun to go.
Round Table- Generally never a cover. Has a cool little upstairs and also a nice back patio.
If you venture further North of the Square on Lamar, there is Snackbar (amazing drinks & food) and Lamar Lounge (same).

So question for Ole Miss guy....wife is wanting to dress up big time for the game, my question is as a visitor she or I wouldn't look out of place in casual stuff would we? Button up or Polo sure...but a tie to a football game as she is suggesting....ehhh..not so much. What say you Ole miss guy
Many of the people in tie's are freshmen fraternity pledges. Button up, jeans/khakis, and boots are what most people will be wearing.
So here I am on a football forum asking fashion tips......yep like of a 30s something married dude.....
So would my wife blend in in a casual orange dress...whatever the hell a casual dress is...she has read too much and is wanting me to ask questions....I am going to make her get an account if she ask me to ask anything else.

She will be fine. Most of the girls down there wear casual dresses then again some of the girls wear their Sunday best. As long as she thinks she looks "presentable" yall will be good to go. ps bring your sunglasses.
