The tail gating was ok with the fans before they became a good team,,,,,, now the rebel fans are really hard to live with,,,,, and if we somehow get a lead in the game ,,,, watch how fast these wonderful people turn on you,,,,,,, if all your wanting is sleep and no partying,,,, holly springs has a few hotels right of 78,,,,,, but the square at Oxford has many places to eat,,,,,, I'm right in the heart of rebel land,,,,, so forgive me but their fans have really turned me the wrong way lol. Forget trying to do a UT tailgate. You WON'T get a spot in The Grove (most pay students to reserve a spot, and they have the same spots for years). Just go to The Grove and take in a unique experience. I know a few different folks with tents who we usually hang out with (my wife is an Ole Miss alum, and I have several friends who are as well), but I also enjoy just walking around checking all the tents out. I've always had strangers invite me in for food and drink.

We won't be at this game though. We decided many years ago to never watch the UT vs. Ole Piss game together. We don't even sit in the same room at home during the game.

Does anyone know about what time or where to be to see the team get off of the bus and enter the stadium? Basically the Vol walk but on the road...

According to the NOAA, the weather is looking good for this weekend. Low 80's during the day on Saturday, then high 50's that night. No rain.

Not necessarily true. If you want to tailgate, be ready to enter campus at 8PM with your tent and run to a spot. If you can get there between 3pm-6pm and have one person sit in a spot to hold it until you bring the tent, you could do that too. My suggestion is setting up in the Circle, which is an extension to the Grove. There are more open spots.

Just walk through the grove. An Ole Miss tailgate will take you in.

You might want to look for certain city tents like Chattanooga Rebels or Nashville Rebels, depending on where you're from. Most of Ole Miss' out of state students come from TN and there is large alum presence there so they'll be happy to entertain some fellow Tennesseans.

I have always noticed both fan bases are pretty respectful of each other. UT doesn't really care about Ole Miss and vice versa. As I said above, lots of OM fans come from the Volunteer State.

Look for a room in Senatobia, but pack some heat unless the area has changed...

Senatobia is a hellhole but closer to Oxford than Southaven/Olive Branch--just 35ish minutes. They might be booked up by now too, though.

What time would you all suggest getting there? Hope some friendly tailgate will take us in or even a rebel enemy camp. Getting pumped up for the trip...gonna gamble Friday night.

I would shoot to get there around 1 or 2. That being said, traffic will be a nightmare on hwy 6 going into Oxford so may want to leave even earlier. Tunica is about an hour away but will probably be more like 2.5 hours with traffic.

What about from downtown Memphis?

There's no bad relations between UT and Ole Miss. I agree.

Downtown Mem is about an hour and a half without traffic. You may want to take 78 to Holly Springs, MS and then take highway 7 into Oxford. That will likely be less traffic than 55 South -> highway 6.

I've been to Oxford three times. The Grove is tailgating at its finest. I've had a mixed experience with the fans, and I'm guessing that prosperity will instill a little "new-money" cockiness that might be ill-received by visitors.

The square has a number of cool, but small spots. Expect crowded bars and make sure you have a reservation for dinner. City Grocery is the place to eat, but I doubt you can get in there, at this point. There is another place across the square that is also really good (steaks, etc), but I don't recall the name.

If you don't have a room booked, forget about it, at this point. Collierville is a hike but a heck of a lot closer than Jackson. Last time I went, we stayed with friends in Savannah, TN/Pickwick.

Any clue about parking?

Hello Vols was just lurking on your board seeing yalls thoughts on the weekend and came across this question so figured I would signup and help out real quick.

You will not be able to park on campus. About 3 years ago now they changed it to where you have to have a PASS to park ANYWHERE on campus. Used to most parts of campus were open parking on Gamedays.

I have also heard that The Square will tow on Gameday if cars are left all day. I cannot answer this because in my 8 years of driving/parking in Oxford i have never tried to do this. Just wanted to leave a warning.

The best place/safest place to park in Oxford was like someone else said in the University Mall parking lot off of Jackson Avenue. Pretty large lot with free parking (no passes or anything needed) AND there are shuttles that go to and from campus like every 10 minutes. The shuttle drops off right at the Quad then a quick 5-7 minute walk to The Grove. You can take coolers and other items you may have for tailgating with you on the shuttle.

Remember when it comes to alcohol BEER IS NOT ALLOWED IN GROVE. But liquor/wine/champagne is. Now thats not saying that no one drinks beer in Grove but it must be kept in a cup and fairly secretive. But you dont have to worry about whipping out a bottle of Jack or Makers and pouring one.

This is more of an issue to opposing fans that dont know this rule. I watched 2 Arky fans have to pour out 48 Buds at 10Am out of their cooler into the grass one at a time because they opened their cooler and cracked one open in range of a cop.

Sorry for the wall of text I just know how it can be going to a road game and not knowing where to go exactly. If yall have any other questions ill do my best to answer them. Looking forward to Saturday hoping for a good injury free game :hi:

Welcome to VN. Living in Memphis, I've been to oxford countless times. It's one of my favorite places to go in the SEC. When I go to games, I park at the water tower off University Blvd.

Good post. I should have posted that it is difficult, and it virtually impossible if you aren't very aware of where and when to go. It's certainly more trouble than I'd be willing to go through. I also think, unless you have been many times, it's more interesting to really walk around and experience such a unique atmosphere.

Is this at 1111 Jackson Avenue West? If so, it looks like it is just across form Fraternity Row. How quickly does the lot fill up or how early do you need to get there for a spot?

Thanks for your tips!
