OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

I had to smile when I saw that she had struck that “eye pose” for fun a few years ago (in her early 60s).

Some of you guys need to read John Keats’ poem and learn to enjoy everything life has to offer.
To Autumn
Season of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
Conspiring with him how to load and bless
With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees,
And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
And still more, later flowers for the bees,
….
Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they?
Think not of them, thou hast thy music too,—
While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day,
And touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue;

And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn;
Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft
The redbreast whistles from a garden-croft,
And gathering swallows twitter in the skies.

You’re adding Keats to the baseball forum?

a little girl with blonde hair is sitting in a car seat and making a funny face

They said it was an “Off Topic” thread. Is this why people don’t root for Tulane? I did It for our ladies here. They have to put up with a lot and might appreciate the sentiment.

I’m having fun, but of all things I ever thought would be posted here (even in the Off Topic thread), it sure wasn’t Keats!

I know! It was the first thing that popped into my crazy head. And I went with it. It really speaks directly to the off-topic topic.

Interesting.

Draftkings released 17 National “Games of the Year.” Of those, 5 (nearly one-third!) are Tennessee games. We are the most important team in the country! I know we are! But, wait, wut?!

This is Sally’s explanation:

DraftKings places a disproportionate focus on Tennessee because the state represents one of their most unique, high-volume betting markets in the country. [1]
The decision to heavily feature five different Volunteer football games in this early lookahead drop stems from specific business, regional, and scheduling factors:

1. High Engagement in a Mobile-Only Market.
Tennessee was one of the earliest southern states to legalize sports betting (launching in late 2020) and is entirely mobile-only with no brick-and-mortar casinos. DraftKings North America has previously noted that the state boasts a highly active "skin-in-the-game" fan base. Flooding the market with Tennessee lookahead lines guarantees maximum engagement from a massive, tech-savvy user base during the slow summer months. [1]

2. High-Profile Home and Away Marquee Matchups.
Tennessee's 2026 schedule happens to feature highly volatile, "clean" marquee games that are highly attractive to oddsmakers: [1]
  • The Arch Manning Factor: The Sept. 26 game against Texas brings the Manning name back to Knoxville, making it arguably the biggest media game of the early SEC schedule. [1, 2]
  • The Lane Kiffin Storyline: The Nov. 21 game against LSU marks Lane Kiffin's highly anticipated return to Neyland Stadium, creating massive public betting interest. [1, 2]

3. Creating Regional "DraftKings vs. Fanatics" Competition.
With sportsbooks constantly fighting for market share, dropping isolated regional lines is an intentional tactic to dominate local sports radio and sports blogs (like Rocky Top Insider or Fox Sports Knoxville). By listing the Texas A&M and Vanderbilt road spreads alongside the high-profile home games, DraftKings captures the regional news cycle before competitor sportsbooks can react. [1, 2]

Yucky clickbait.

It was a tweet, not that big of a deal. Fandom has went to a extreme level on this site lately... maybe I need to disappear for a while like @MAD did.

I’m not criticizing you. I linked the post because I was referring to it. I think that they did this is newsworthy.

I hate to see them trying to bait our fans this way. The bad numbers are not good for recruiting. But they are trying to make money. This gives them both publicity and wants to provoke TN to bet now, figuring that the odds will change later.

It is interesting they try to get attention using UT —and also ND. What Sally said is interesting imo.
