OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

Well said my friend. It took a special kind of generation of people to fight & win a long bloody war.
You hear stories of guys (teenagers) signing up to go fight this unjust war as young as 14.
My dad had two older brothers that fought in the war. One stayed in the army as a life long job & retired as Major while stationed in Germany. My dad failed his physical & was heart-broken that he could not go fight along side his brothers & to fight for America.

Exactly what WTNOB said
My Dad was stationed at Pearl Harbor at war's end and was photographer for US hospital. He was in ROTC at UT, and his classmates were all bound for the German invasion. Dad reinjured knee (football injury from HS) at summer camp in San Antonio and was transferred to medical corps. As far as I recall, all of his close ROTC classmates returned to successful lives. Dad passed in 14 shortly after Vols beat Vandy. Would have been able to continue trout fishing in in his final 20 years had he been able to have knee replaced. I drew a high lottery number while in college during Vietnam years

Wow, Thanks for sharing that Ardent.

Great story ArdentVol. Your dad sounds like he was a fantastic dude. I was not so lucky, I drew a low draft number while I was in college. All I could see was me being shot at on a constant basis while ducking behind the trees.

Thanks
We are all fortunate you made it back to West Tennessee.
Been meaning to ask if you had any recommendations on drive to STL and back. We ve been driving straight through, but me and MrsA are finding our eyes arent as good while we enjoyed DST. We still prefer Jackson route over the Memphis and up route

Driving to St Louis. All I know is: from Jackson take US 412 to Dyersburg then cross the mighty Mississippi River Bridge and get on I-55 & go North. Gotta stop in Sikeston, MO to eat their world famous food where they like throwing rolls at ya. Then gas up & carry on to St.Louis.

we could use Dansby in stl.

wish we had kept Quintana, and hopefully we have the right guy to replace Yadi
I would love to have Dansby back with the Braves but we have a young stud in Vaughn Grissom that can take the reins if all else fails. The Cardinals would be getting a great player if they snag Swanson but their issue is starting pitching imo. They were 15th (2nd worst for playoff teams) in MLB in quality starts.

That is a downer, although since I follow the men's team more closely, my first thought was that Tyreke Key is out.
Whenever I saw it on the front page of ESPN I thought the same thing since he went down last night. Either way, it’s unfortunate news but glad they found out before something really adverse occurred. Prayers for her throughout her treatment 🙏
