I thought I had a similar opinion until I saw him in St. Louis his last year with the Nats. I saw a four-game series and sat directly behind the Nats’ dugout. I was really impressed with the way he interacted with people. He was one of two players with the Nats who actually walked out to the 3rd base line when the national anthem was played. Got some jawing from rival fans but still stayed classy.

Being “patriotic” doesn’t absolve someone of appearing to be a douchebag. Maybe he was on good behavior that particular day you saw him. As @W.TN.Orange Blood stated, I have heard more stories of him disrespecting other teams. There is a reason why he is so disliked.

I remember acting that way when I was 7-8 years old playing Texas little league baseball.

I read that and as a former high school coach who was in charge of our game field, I would feel the same way. People just want out of their pea picking minds.

Chesney pulls for whatever team who is paying his check. When he’s performing in Gainesville, he is a big a gator fan. Who can forget him putting on the Gator helmet And pandering to the FL crowd. He just strikes me as not genuine. And I’m not talking about how the baseball team “wore“ them.

Thanks! The event is Voloween, they invite UT staff/faculty to bring their kids in costume (and for goofballs like me to costume up as well) and hang out with some athletes.
