Oakland was never going to trade straight up because Murphy had more history than Contreras. The Cards wanted Murphy more than Contreras, but the A’s asking price in prospects was too much.Wouldn’t you think they could have traded Contreras for Murphy straight up? I’m still shocked we had to give up so much for him. He better ball out next year or AA might be looking for another job. Especially after the Freeman debacle and if he lets Dansby walk. His approval rating went from 100% after the World Series to below 50% within a year.
I would not have made that deal.
