OldTimer’s Dugout - Off Topic Thread

The Orioles and Angels have completed a trade sending OF Taylor Ward to Baltimore in exchange for RHP Grayson Rodriguez.
Living with my 13 year old is like living with Peter Gammons!
I’ll get random breaking news text messages throughout the day and night, anytime there is baseball news!
He’s like, “yo dad, Bill Thompson and Jose Garcia just got traded to the Sox!!”
I’m like who?!
It’ll be some random middle reliever and a bullpen catcher…🤣

That day he blew his knee out in the first (?) game one year,
I felt like my best friend ever had died that day. I was sick all year.
Yep. Just another reminder that we live under the harshest of injury curses. I've said it before, but just take the one or two guys in any sport that we just can't afford to lose and wait for it to come.

No rays of sunshine from me this morning. Just cold and cloudy outside my window.

One of the Vols best ever RBs of all time, Chuck Webb, hits pay dirt.

When I think Tennessee football, this is the kind of image that pops in my mind!
Chuck Webb, Greg Amsler, Roland Poles and that Big Offensive line, Johnny Majors… man, watching that brought a smile to my face!

Its crazy when you see those names and go back for the memories only to realize just how long ago that was. Guys like Naumoff, Kiner, Seivers, Scott...geez. How fast it all went by. Worse yet....seeing how the game and game experience has changed. Where's the Doc and his Delorean when you need him?

We were at that '89 Cotton Bowl. The Cobb-Webb duo was as good as it gets. Chuck's combination of speed, power & 'moves' was unmatched. He just didn't like to go to class.

He was born too early. He'd have been a perfect fit for today's "college" game.
I remember during a game an announcer asked the question about
how the heck did Coach Majors convince Chuck Webb to come to
UT to play football bc Webb was from Ohio which is in Ohio State's
backyard.

I was in graduate school at Ohio State at that time and this was discussed. Their fans thought they had Webb in the bag, then Tenn swooped in. Their exact quote: "I wonder how much that cost 'em"? They're convinced we paid him off

I never heard a correct answer on this. No interview was made about asking
the talented RB that question. He never said "bc I love UT & Coach Majors".

Question of the day.

Difficulty: Impossible
Good luck!

What do these 8 people have in common?

“Macho Man” Randy Savage

Bert Convy
Paul Gleason (Mr. Vernon, The Breakfast Club)
John Elway
Kurt Russell
