On February 27 in Baseball History...
  • 1901 - The N.L. Rules Committee decrees that all fouls are to count as strikes, except after two strikes. To cut the cost of lost foul balls, the committee urges that batsmen who foul off good strikes are to be disciplined. Other new rules: catchers must play within 10 feet of the batter, a ball will be called if the pitcher does not throw to a ready and waiting batter within 20 seconds, and players using indecent or improper language will be banished by the umpire. A ball will be called when a batter is hit by a pitch.

  • 1908 - The sacrifice fly rule is adopted. No time at bat is charged if a run scores after the catch of a fly ball. The rule will be repealed in 1931, then reinstated (or changed) several times before gaining permanent acceptance in 1954.

  • 1973 - White Sox slugger Dick Allen signs a three-year contract for an estimated $250,000 per year, making him the highest-paid player in major league history.

  • 1990 - The Special Veterans Committee fails to elect a single player to the Hall of Fame for the second time in three years.

1st, how did they graduate to learning Calculus whenever they didn’t even pass Pre-Algebra? 2nd, they do realize that Algebra comes after Pre-Algebra? Then you have to take Pre-Calculus before you take Calculus. That’s the problem with that organization. They want to win so bad that they think they can jump ahead without learning the prerequisites.

☹️ You could have said “they are heading in the right direction” instead of going off about all the different levels and the proper order of math.

So, when thinking of the male organ being cut off, the lions come to mind? I’m sure it’s torturous being a lions fan, so makes sense on some level.
Sorry @mad4vols they are such an easy target. Hopefully they get into the playoffs next season. Lord knows you Detroit fans need it.

You serious, Clark?
I was but a wee little lad whenever this happened. I never thought to look up memorable castrations. I do know they used to do this to boys before puberty so they could keep their high notes while singing. That’s where castrato gets the name. If I were a kid back then I would stay as far away from music as possible. What an awful thing to do to anyone, let alone kids.

Male lions frequently get ran off by the females. Maybe that's the route Detroit needs to go with.
Typical female behavior. Marry a guy, gives into her friend’s peer pressure, comes back after a night out saying she’s filing for divorce, and she’s taking the house, cars, and kids. The man is forced to live out his days alone in the wilderness. Don’t worry big fella, you’re still “king of the jungle”.

Ben is gonna make the opening day roster, isn’t he?
😎
He probably won’t and will be called up after a few months to keep his service time lowered and they get an extra year out of him. He had a 2.08 ERA in 13IP in AA ball. Going to be hard to keep that type of production down long. Also, with the draft lottery now there is less incentive to tank.

I don’t think 13IP in AA would be considered production. Pretty small sample. But I agree that he will likely get a little more polishing in the MILB before they bring him up this season. Future is bright though!
