and it sucks, because even with that kind of money....there's a more than 50-50 chance he turns it down.

the only time in any of our last searches, we finally decide to pony up---at least like this anyways, and it's at the worst possible time...cause we're pretty much a mess right now.

I'm guessing you didn't audit the AD, or their 300+ million dollar proposal for Neyland renovations.

The head coaches salary is a drop in the bucket compared to how much the AD makes and spends every year.

I think you care because the pundits will talk about it, but at the end of the day, it's meaningless.

If you have a top 15 coach on the line, willing to come. Paying him 3 million more than "value" does not matter. We can clearly afford it.

If anyone can buy their way out of a slump, it's us. No one is going to say "Here are the 10-2 Vols in the 2018 SEC championship, but I would like to remind everyone, they paid a coach twice what he was being paid before to come here."

This is all easy to say as someone who DOESN'T have to propose the budget to the president. But again, neither do you.

Good points. But whats important to you and I as individual fans may not be the same. And there is nothing wrong with that. You are correct in many points here. One of my main contentions is that Gundy, imo, hasnt done anything that deserves UT paying hiim that much. As a matter of fact, i believe the only reason he is being offered that much is because of 2 things.

One is what happened with the Schiano debacle. Because of Currie's spineless incompetence, Tennessee will likely have to vastly over pay for any coach to make the job more attractive. Secondly, Currie is overreacting. I believe what happened has him in a tailspin and he is in fight or flight mode.

For the record, I am not against Gundy at all. I dont think he is necessarily an elite coach, but he is a good coach. If we hire Gundy, I will be ok with that. And depending on who he gets for his staff, it could turn out to be a great hire and well worth the money. I certainly hope it is.

It’s as easy there as it is here. Bob Stoops retired while we have to beat Bama twice. Not impossible, but unless Bama hits the skids after Saban hangs it up, Malzahn implodes, and Smart flames out, it’s not going to be any easier. And that still doesn’t include the likelihood of Bama hiring Dabo or some other superstar to follow instead of Mike Price.

How do we have to beat Bama twice? I don't see their name in the SECCG this year. Bama hasn't won the SEC every season since he's been there.
