Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy interviewed by Currie

We're in for more trouble than hiring Schiano if they throw 8.4 mil at Gundy and give him some obtusely low allowance for staff.

Agreed whole heartedly. Let's set this man up for success from the start. With the shape our program is in, it's going to take more than a flashy name HC. He's going to need some substance behind that name.

The widely reported interview and offer with Gundy is damage control 101. This move has been successfully used to change the national/google coverage and bring the majority back in line.

Currie has simply traded setting Gundy up with a raise to get the heat off of him and buy more time. If he also gets the coach, then win win. Does anyone think Currie can really pull off a win win?

Please children, don't pay any attention to the man behind the curtain.

Lol there are 10 other coaches that would have been better used for this purpose if this was the goal.

Wrong wrong wrong. This wouldn't have been leaked to the media if there wasn't a chance of this happening. Why? Because if Gundy turns us down at the reported number, it will be another national embarrassment for TN. For some reason, the UTAD feels confident that they have a yes.

There’s a possibility that OSU moves on. It’s probably 50/50 that OSU matches anything over 6 Mill. At 8 Mill., I’d say it’s 70/30 he’s coming here, with the 30% being that OSU gives a raise to Gundy of upwards to 6 Mill per and he stays. Gundy is a good coach. He’s not elite. OSU may decide to get a new voice in.

Why would you offer that sum to Gundy and not Petersen? Do you honestly think Gundy is worth anything close to that? Now if 8 million is for him and any staff he wants then I am ok with that.

You don't know they didn't offer that to Petersen.

I think Gundy is worth what it costs for him to come.

I'll ask again. Why do you care how much he is paid?

Here is the win/win. Have him bring Steele in as DC, who has had a hand in beating two number one teams this year as Auburn's DC. If Gundy fails you have a legit HC in your DC to move right up and bring in Tee as OC. Can't lose.

That would be aweasome but thats fantasy land imo. Tee isnt going to want to come here and be an OC. I dont see Steele leaving Auburn. Unless Gus leaves and then he may take Steele with him. Now I would think Steele might leave for the right amount of money. But Auburn is already paying him 1.1 million a year. How much more do you want to pay a DC?

EDIT: I mean if we're going to embrace it....embrace it FULLY

He would totally need to be wearing a jean jacket and his Jensen triaxial's blaring Stroke.

True I dont know. I personally dont think Gundy is worth that much. I could be wrong. I care because I am a fan and because I want to see Tennessee make good decisions with their money.

stop. the only way you even try to get gundy at this point is if you actually think you have a shot at getting him.

making this offer, and getting the meeting, while maybe changing the narrative for, what, a day? doesn't do any long term good for your perception if you get turned down.

i'd say given our current situation percepiton wise, the only reason we're hearing about this because there's a chance. not hte other way around.

there's zero positive spin to come of this if we're turned down, and it's certainly not a smokescreen for someone else. if you were going to do that, you'd fill twitter with reports or joe boring coach, while you work out the deal with gundy.

but for argument's sake, let's say he is using gundy for a smoke screen....get all this out here, and public...get everyone excited about the possibliity we could get gundy out of all of this....

only to introduce...........who exactly?????

Would you have him a.) Leave the Lions now, even though they are alive for the playoffs b.) Leave after they are mathematically eliminated from the playoffs? c.) Leave at the end of the NFL season

He is a good offensive mind, I believe, and seems to have done good things with Stafford and the offense.

Has anyone put out any feelers to gauge interest?

Don't give a ratz azz about the NFL. If he'll come now, go get him!

Does Gundy have the motivation to go against the big dogs of the SEC? That remains to be seen. Is he just taking this job for the payday? I definitely hope not.

I can't come up with 10 believable coaches that would fit this narrative more than Gundy.

$8,000,000 brings a lot of possibilities...

Petersen.
Patterson.
Scott Frost.
James Franklin
Justin Fuente
Kyle Whittingham
Bo Pelini
John Harbaugh
Bobby Petrino
Brett Venables
