Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy interviewed by Currie

If all we aspire to is to make it back up to winning 6-9 ball games and finishing 3rd in the SEC East every year at best, then Gundy is our man. That is exactly where we will top out if we hire this guy. This guy doesn't know what a freakin' defense is and he will NEVER be more than mediocre as an SEC coach. If we don't go out and swallow our pride and hire Kiffin at this point (with contract stipulations and protections of course), then it will be years and years before we ever even sniff the SEC Championship game again.

I like Kiffin but this is crazy talk.:thud:

#Tennessee is focusing in on #okstate's Mike Gundy. Would expect #Vols might have to pay around $6 million or more to get him to leave his set-up in Stillwater & his alma mater. If not, keep an eye on Dave Doeren & Jeff Brohm: on.si.com/2Bxx1f0

Pay Gundy whatever the hell he wants if those two are next in line. Wtf

Again, I have trouble believing some of the posters on here are real people. You actually believe Lane Kiffin to be a more proven head coach than Mike Gundy?

It's this weird thing that some in our fan base always do where, if it's not a "proven championship head coach" (and the definition of that is very subjective), they'd rather have somebody with "potential" who hasn't yet "proven that he can't win a championship." But that's subjective, too, because the vast majority of unproven head coaches fall into the "had to Google" category. The fact that it's Lane Kiffin who these folks have now settled on makes it even weirder, given he failed spectacularly at USC, even if you take away everything that happened with him here.

You people complaining about Gundy are insane. He'd be the closest thing to a homerun that's still available. The only realistic candidate that may make my junk jump a little more than him would be Tee, for obviously different reasons.

Kiffin absolutely has a much higher ceiling in the SEC than Gundy. You cannot compare what Gundy has done in the crappy Big12 conference, to playing in the brutally competitive SEC. Kiffin will be able to recruit at a much higher level than Gundy, and he understands much more about the importance of having a solid defense than Gundy does. But hey, let's go ahead and hire Gundy and see who will be right and who will be wrong 5 wasted Botch-type years down the road.

Shocker.....Brice said before that Currie and Davenport were creating these plans.

If Bev and Currie are yanking our chains and playing their silly little dimestore spy novel games again, then the response when this falls through will make last Sunday look like a church picnic

You pay that much for Gundy, I all but guarantee you will not be happy with him.

What has he ever won in championships? He's won a boat load of games, but regularly loses Bedlam to OU.

He will be your Kevin Sumlin. Constantly finishing 9-3 and 8-4 (for that kind of money) is not good enough.

Who else that has coached at a power 5 school would be a better hire than Gundy?

What if Gundy turns you down?

Going way overboard in pay, for a guy that grew up in Oklahoma and bleeds orange.

Just about everybody else from here on out will expect an $8.4mil offer....or more.

Even the great Saban himself would have failed at USC during the period when Kiffin was there given the extreme NCAA penalties and sanctions they were under for the Pete Carrol regime issues. Way too many fans are too stupid to even realize that.

if we had just offered 8 mil to any coach before Sunday we wouldn't ever have been in this mess. It's too late to go back now. You can't cheap your way out of this unless you want to hire Dooley 2.0

Not everyone has his resume. 8 million is a bit high but you got to pay to play. Gundy is a really good coach.

Plus you could play it down as just internet hype and not pay a up and comer that price.

it is a high risk/high reward situation, agree. if he turns us down, we're standing there with our pants down, again.

it's not a reason not to do it mind you...but you have to be prepared for a "no". cause that's on the table, until it's not.

Actually they brought it back this year. Including this year, they have had a conference championship game 7 out of the 13 years that he has been at OSU. OKST won the conference title in 2011, the first year without a conference championship game.

The first 3 years he was there, he was building the team.
