Oklahoma State's Mike Gundy interviewed by Currie

My only question is this.... Did we offer 8 million to ANY of the other coaches out there? Why can we pay 8 mil now and not then??? Would these other coaches have turned down 8 mil?
Jimbo Fisher? Dan Mullen? The biggest reason UT isn't considered a top job is because the people running the school don't consider it a top job.

I'm in no way poo pooing Gundy. But did we offer this money to anyone else before offering 4 to Schiano???????

Seeing as how John Currie seemed to sheriff this whole thing without any help from his deputies or resources, I would be willing to bet we did not. But I'd say the boosters and the committee, and MAYBE Currie even had the common sense to at least put out feelers for bigger names. If they were immediately shunned without any negotiation, there isn't any real point to keep trying.

So if Gundy is listening, and happens to be one of the few doing so, then we need to be shouting from the mountaintops.

Holy moly this is the guy to get JG the right kind of coaching he needs to be the elite QB he was advertised to be. Remember Kiffin with Crompton? Guarantano under Gundy could be lethal.

Pessimistic View: Gundy is doing his usual routine to get a raise and feel more appreciated after 12 years in Stillwater, especially after a mildly disappointing year where they were a trendy pick to win the Big 12 but went 6-3 in conference. Haslams like shopping in the bargain bin and won't pay the $5.5-$6 million it will take to get him. Deja Vu 2012 - is Charlie Strong next on our list?

Optimistic View: OK State is a traditional doormat, and will always be little brother to OU. Gundy may be feeling like he has done absolutely everything he can to hit the next level in Stillwater but it just can't be done, even when he puts together a team as good as he had this year. Wants to give it a shot at a place that has more structural advantages. Figures that if can he get market value (again $5.5-$6 million) then he can retire on this contract, even if things flame out after 5 years.

Someone said he already got a raise this year

The news spilling out of Stillwater is they are confident that Mike Gundy will be our coach

That doesn't say he agreed. that says he's confident :unsure::unsure:i can't take anymore let down this week...

but seriously, thank you for sharing.

$8.4 million for Gundy? Two thoughts...

1.) Tennessee isn’t considered a top job if you have to pay such a premium.
2.) Tennessee will regain that status because they are willing to pay whatever it takes.

My two thoughts:
1. If it gets our guy, I don't care.
2. Sorry, that's all I've got...

That mullet... omg.

But if The Mullet brings us wins... I'll deal with it. Put a coonskin hat on and all will be good.
