Everything was perfectly set for tonight, I was watching the game on television, I was pumped when Tennessee came roaring out of the gates and was jacked up, then the storm came.
No I'm not blaming this game on the storm, Tennessee played hard until they gave up and I was impressed with how they came out with no fear and were all pumped up giving Oregon fits, but here are the things that need to be fixed.
1. Matt Simms, I'm not calling for his head. I believe he should be the starter. He just has to quit making stupid mistakes, on the pick 6 that he threw that pretty much deflated the game, Justin Hunter was wide open behind the intended receiver that Simms tried to squeeze the ball into. I understand that Simms was pressured but If he would have just thrown it to Justin Hunter, The Vols score, and we are most likely talking about a whole new ballgame.
2. The defense was incredible at first. They were playing their hardest and they were shutting down Oregon and frustrating the hell out of them. The defense has to learn that sometimes you will play hurry up offenses and you have to be focused and maintain the whole game, not just a partial point of it.
3. The running game was once again amazing until the second half, the O-line just seemed to be out of gas and quite frankily didn't care anymore, they started getting pushed around and just lost momentum. I mean look at the first half, we won time of possession over Oregon and who had the momentum? You guessed it, the Big Orange did.
4. The playcalling was brilliant, once again until the second half. Tennessee got too conservative, we should came out in the second half on the first possession and hit Oregon right in the mouth with a long ball pass play. I believe it would have knocked them off their guard.
5. One more major thing, the fans made me sick. If I had tickets to that Oregon game, I would of stayed until the final whistle. You so called Vol faithful walking out on them boys, oh yeah, like that's going to help confidence. Get behind them damnit and support them even if we're losing 60-0.
Hint hint though, Do you see what I'm getting at? CDD needs to be alive this week in practice, bring the team up and seriously express and talk and practice performing finishing the damn game. You have to finish to win, Tennessee didn't finish tonight, bottom line. That's why we are 1-1. In fact, CDD needs not only to talk to his team but his coordinators also about finishing the game, once again, you finish and you win.
Am I calling this season to be a dumbfounded 3-9 season? Absolutely not, I don't care what anyone says, I believe Tennessee and Florida are on the same level playing field and it's gonna be a barn burner next week. Tennessee is a very good team. They are young and inexperienced but they can pull it together and put together a very nice season, we'll just wait and see what happens.
GO VOLS and
ps: Remind me next time to turn on the Vol Network and watch the game with that audio because I couldn't hardly stand anymore Mr. NEGAVOL himself, Craig James
