Everything was perfectly set for tonight, I was watching the game on television, I was pumped when Tennessee came roaring out of the gates and was jacked up, then the storm came.

No I'm not blaming this game on the storm, Tennessee played hard until they gave up and I was impressed with how they came out with no fear and were all pumped up giving Oregon fits, but here are the things that need to be fixed.

1. Matt Simms, I'm not calling for his head. I believe he should be the starter. He just has to quit making stupid mistakes, on the pick 6 that he threw that pretty much deflated the game, Justin Hunter was wide open behind the intended receiver that Simms tried to squeeze the ball into. I understand that Simms was pressured but If he would have just thrown it to Justin Hunter, The Vols score, and we are most likely talking about a whole new ballgame.

2. The defense was incredible at first. They were playing their hardest and they were shutting down Oregon and frustrating the hell out of them. The defense has to learn that sometimes you will play hurry up offenses and you have to be focused and maintain the whole game, not just a partial point of it.

3. The running game was once again amazing until the second half, the O-line just seemed to be out of gas and quite frankily didn't care anymore, they started getting pushed around and just lost momentum. I mean look at the first half, we won time of possession over Oregon and who had the momentum? You guessed it, the Big Orange did.

4. The playcalling was brilliant, once again until the second half. Tennessee got too conservative, we should came out in the second half on the first possession and hit Oregon right in the mouth with a long ball pass play. I believe it would have knocked them off their guard.

5. One more major thing, the fans made me sick. If I had tickets to that Oregon game, I would of stayed until the final whistle. You so called Vol faithful walking out on them boys, oh yeah, like that's going to help confidence. Get behind them damnit and support them even if we're losing 60-0.

Hint hint though, Do you see what I'm getting at? CDD needs to be alive this week in practice, bring the team up and seriously express and talk and practice performing finishing the damn game. You have to finish to win, Tennessee didn't finish tonight, bottom line. That's why we are 1-1. In fact, CDD needs not only to talk to his team but his coordinators also about finishing the game, once again, you finish and you win.

Am I calling this season to be a dumbfounded 3-9 season? Absolutely not, I don't care what anyone says, I believe Tennessee and Florida are on the same level playing field and it's gonna be a barn burner next week. Tennessee is a very good team. They are young and inexperienced but they can pull it together and put together a very nice season, we'll just wait and see what happens.

GO VOLS and
ps: Remind me next time to turn on the Vol Network and watch the game with that audio because I couldn't hardly stand anymore Mr. NEGAVOL himself, Craig James

We need 3+ good years of recruiting, less turnover with said recruits, good strength and conditioning and of course good coaching, its really that simple.

The OP could have saved a bunch of keystrokes by posting this instead of going the MHF route.

6 wins would be pretty satisfying, a hell of a lot better than Uga is gonna be this year, so I'd be pretty content

tonight's game was a product of our lack of depth and our lack of a leadership from our seniors/playmakers, especially at quarterback. i like simms and i think he should be the starter but he needs to make the easy throws.
also, where was stocker, moore, and kevin cooper tonight?

the opportunities to win the game were there. we simply did not capitalize on them. we beat ourselves on way too many plays tonight. the small things once again killed us. tackling was simply awful.
that being said, we need to get behind these guys and support them 100% this year and show them (and recruits) that no matter how bad things are now, they will get better sooner than later.

give dooley and company three years and i think we win games like that.

 hopefully, we won't have to wait 3 years, maybe 2

It's called lack of depth :fool:

stocker and Poole need to step up and be leaders on offence. I think missing Jones out there hurt us tonight

Yeah, basically we got tired and rightfully so. The high tempo offense wore down our defense that is not very deep. We just didn't have the guys to roll in and out and stay fresh. Hopefully we won't play such a high tempo offense the rest of the year. I don't think we will. That includes Florida.

I think the loss of G. Jones was bigger than we thought. D. Moore seemed flat and without the threat of Jones, things didn't open well for Oku. Only Poole was able to make some things work and Oregon took over the line in the 2nd half. We need that senior leadership and playmaking threat that Jones gives us.

I agree with you, TC. I'm not sure you can get TOO angry at the fans - they sat through an hour delay and Neyland was full until the score was 34-13 and there wasn't much hope left.

I swear there was a clip on Janzen Jackson during that bazillion yard play Lamichael James had. No excuse for the very poor tackling that was witnessed there and throughout the second half.

The pick really changed the game. It was just a bad decision by an inexperienced quarterback. Conservative playcalling the entire second half didn't help us get on the board.

I was very proud of the way we played for 3/4 quarters. The final score doesn't show how close the game was for its majority.

Considering the expectations of this year, I think there is a lot of positive that came out of last night's game. I also believe that Oregon team was one of the best opponents we have faced in Neyland in the past 2 decades. When that offense got moving, it was a machine. I'll look forward to the rest of the year being able to enjoy the art form rather than coward at it.

I give Oregon kudos and wish them luck on the rest of the year.

Before you go calling out the fans who where at the game, it would be wise, I don't know, to attend!

Kinda hard to make the distinction when two guys are coming untouched. If it wasn't going out of bounds, the least he could have done was take the sack. But I doubt we were scoring on that play, either way. That's the danger of having the short read being the primary one so often.

2. The defense was incredible at first. They were playing their hardest and they were shutting down Oregon and frustrating the hell out of them. The defense has to learn that sometimes you will play hurry up offenses and you have to be focused and maintain the whole game, not just a partial point of it.

The entire point of the no huddle is to wear the other team down and disrupt the flow of playcalling and substitutions. This isn't the last time it will be our Achilles' heel. There really isn't anything we can do about it against a team with that much talent. We just don't have the horses to stop it.

I think it was more Oregon making adjustments, and not getting out of position.
4. The playcalling was brilliant, once again until the second half. Tennessee got too conservative, we should came out in the second half on the first possession and hit Oregon right in the mouth with a long ball pass play. I believe it would have knocked them off their guard.

We called two long pass plays on the first drive out of the half.

lol @ calling out the fans

The team quit but you decide to blame the fans for us getting blown out.

Lack of depth. At least fulmer left us with half a loaded team last year he just couldn't coach them. Kiffin completely left our tank empty. We just aren't capable of competing right now. We are on par with Vandy right now. No matter what we do we just don't have it in 2010. I still love my vols though.

That's just precious the lady who watched the game from her nice warm living room calling us for leaving when we're down 28 points with 10 minutes left in the 4th.

I was absoluely soaking wet, cold, tired, and my throat was aching from yelling for over 4 hours. Its not exactly fun to standing in soaking wet socks and shoes for as hours. Listen I'd still be there screaming if I thought there was still a chance in hell we come back but eventually(under certain circumstances) you gotta cut your losses and get home and get some dry socks on.
