I'm flying into Oakland on the 29th, I don't care for San Fran at all. I really don't care too much for Oakland either but I've got some friends living there. Gonna play a little golf and drink a little beer for a couple days before we commence to kicking a little a$$ on the gridiron.

I'll be there ... love the Bay area. Vol fans should definitely go and make a mini-vacation of it. Drive down the PCH to Big Sur ... see the sights (Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf) ... lots of shopping ... and the watch the Vols kick a little A.

SF is OK, to call it a true treasure or a cesspool is too far in either direction.

Personally, I enjoy hitting SF for tourist and culture stuff but prefer to stay north. I'll be staying in Sausalito labor day weekend. I've also stayed in Tiburon which is very relaxing.

If you like wine, it's hard to beat Napa and surrounding valleys (e.g. Alexander and Russian River) for getting to visit many quality wineries in one general area. Those are only like an hour drive away from Berkeley. Also, Mt. Tamalpais State Park just north of San Francisco is really nice with goods views of the the ocean and San Francisco. Also, Muir Woods is right there as well. There really are many really nice places to visit within an hour of Berkeley/San Francisco.

personally i like the russian river a lot more than napa. people are a lot more laid back, the wine is cheaper, and they actually have free tastings.

Yeah, almost all of the Napa wineries charge for tastings now, and it can be really busy on the weekends. If you are in Napa Valley, though, V. Sattui Winery (V. Sattui Home Page) is a great place to stop for free wine tasting and a picnic (they have a good shop with lots of cheese, bread, etc.). Regardless, there is a lot of really good wine in the region.

The Ghost and his better half will be there. Plan on doing a little wine tasting and a balloon ride in Napa and hiking in Yosemite too. Or Yo-zuh-mite as Kelly Bundy would call it. :p

All great things (although I've never done the hot air balloon ride in Napa)! You'll have a blast!

I am heading out to San Francisco for the Labor Day weekend show. Staying at the Sir Francis Drake. I encourage all Vol fans to make the trip. The Bay Area is one of America's true treasures.

The Sir Francis Drake is a good place to stay! You'll be right by Union Square in Downtown SF with a ton of great restaurants and not far from any of the city attractions. You should also have an easy time taking BART across the bay right into Berkeley.

If you like seafood, Scomas by the wharf is great!
Scoma's Restaurant - Freshest Seafood in San Francisco - Family Traditions - Friendly Services - Since 1965

This will definitely be a fun road trip for the Vol fans.
