Ok, I’m still confused about Currie

at that point it was too late for him to save his job. The cumulative effect of his damage was too great. They might should have kept the leach deal, but i understand wanting to take a step back and reassess everything to make sure we make the right decision. Especially if we are now moving forward more unified and acting in the best interest of tennessee. I think the decision to fire currie was ultimately his insubordination.

i don't think so

I just do not understand why Haslam would want to destroy a team that he supposidly loves? He isn't stupid enough to not know this!

I think it's about power. Some people crave the power over other people even if it is to the detriment of the overall program. Seen this many times in a corporate environment.

for Haslam the TN athletic dept. had become his kingdom.

it sounds like from what I've read, once legal counsel at TN read the MOU Currie gave Schiano, Bev called him and told him no more deals, get back here. The fired him upon his return. He's currently on paid leave as the legal team at TN determine what cause they can fire him for, but I guarantee you they have cause. They will likely agree to give him some portion of cash for a parting agreement.

Not sure anyone else caught this but Davenport used the term Vol Nation 2 or 3 times in her presser. She has her ears to the ground.

So the story is, he tries to hire her Schiano under Haslam’s orders right? Obviously didn’t go well

He proceeds to interview random coaches...no luck

Then tries to go hire leach, was told to come back...and then fired...

So what happened? He was trying to save his job by trying to hire a coach the fans would like but was not approved by Haslam? Was it Bev that finally woke up and fired him, realizing he was a puppet to Haslam?

I’m still so confused. If Currie was trying to do the right thing, why was he fired?

Disclaimer: I’m not in support of Currie at all...just confused at the story

curriei was the point man for haslam. schiano was all haslam and currie. that much is a known.

then sunday happened, and scramble mode commensed. and they started going down their list.

as each coach started to say no, at some point, probably have Doeren said no, Currie realizes the jig is up and he's the one on the hook, so he goes rogue in an attempt to get a deal done with a coach that might please enough to save his job.

but by then it's too late. Fulmer, Anderson, Thorton and other UTAD officals against all this, and wanting to take control away from Haslam, go to BD and say "this is what's going down, get that guy off the road, and he needs to be fired. you want to be on the right side of this". so she does just that, but he's already in CA, or on the way.

so he gets back, has the meeting this morning, and he's out. removing currie was the major step in neutering haslam. and once fulmer got the nod for the AD intstead of haslam's stooge Stigmon, it was over. haslams influence, effectively removed from the decision making process as to what happens next with this program.

Currie has culpability here, but he is really a pawn of haslam's in the end. feel bad for him or don't, doesn't matter, there was no way he was surviving this.
Great summary Jake :good!:

Please explain how PM deceived the Haslams and Currie when he decided to actively support the Schiano hire, because your post doesn't make sense.

He supported it knowing it would nail Halsmams coffin shut. The man doesn't need Haslam to get a part of a franchise.

I don't buy into this "Currie had a minimal list of candidates the Haslam family gave him"

That doesn't make sense? Especially with all these meetings and such.

They have money into the Browns. They basically moved on from TN I would think.

And they are business people. I understand the love for Gruden and Kelly but what is the connection with Schiano?

For some reason I think some boosters are envy they don't have much money donate like Haslams do where they don't have somewhat authority or influence. So they'll come up with reasons that it's the Haslams fault.

If somehow we landed Gruden, then everybody would be praising the Haslams, etc.. I don't get it.

Currie didn't have a list. Schiano was his man.

Hate to break it to ya but Gruden isn't coming.

Jon Gruden was never an option, especially for the Haslams.

Gruden will never come here while the Haslams are controlling things but rumors going around that the University/ other boosters is trying to take control of University which is good sign. Best thing is for Haslams to get out of controlling sports in general.

Schiano was plan A, B, C, and D the whole time. He was Haslam's guy from the beginning. Haslam interviewed Schiano for the Browns and was impressed with him. That's why Currie didn't hire a search firm. That's why Currie was in the Bahamas instead of looking for a coach. They HAD their guy! Only they didn't count on the overwhelming backlash from fans, boosters, state legislatures, local business owners, local religious leaders, etc. So when they pulled the deal from Schiano, they HAD no other plan.

How long has Currie known the Haslams? Did they have a relationship before he came to UT?
