So what am I missing??? Likely none of this would have even come out (from Pat S) had Jennings not filled the suit. Summit was obligated to give a truthful statement which inadvertantly disclosed her frustration with Hart. Apparently, all was well and worked out with Pat and the University/Hart. She did take the postion as emeritus... Misunderstandings happen all the time and this was certainly a delicate situation. I guarantee it was important to everyone (including Hart) at the university that Pat was treated like gold. I am sure even with the best of intentions, speaking to Pat about stepping down as HC would be a teribly difficult task.

If Pat had been the one suing it would have really upset me. She didn't. Jennings is trying to use her. Shame on Jennings.

As long as it was done with class and dignity, I have no problems with Hart removing Summitt from her post (if that's what truly happened). She wasn't going to be able to coach forever, even in perfect health, and tough decisions have to be made in some instances.

If your AD doesn't have the stones to make a move like this then you've hired the wrong AD.

Thanks for your extremely insightful input. I feel I am more than aware of what dementia and Alzheimers does to a person as I had to experience it first hand with my uncle.

As others have stated, other than Gen. Robert Neyland, Pat Summitt IS The University of Tennessee. I really hate to see her get put in the middle of all of this.

Sorry Pat Summit is NOT the University of Tennessee. Neither was Robert Neyland. She was a coach for the women's basketball team at the university. A very good coach at that.

It's women's basketball. Not exactly the most significant sport. Tennessee is Tennessee, were not like Penn state and paterno.

That's last statement is absolutely ridiculous. I think if the Lady Vols ceased to exist the University would survive just fine. Pat Summit has been great for the University but come on there have been a lot of great coaches and players that have contributed.

I rank General Neyland 1) and Pat Summitt 1a) but it would have been POTENTIALLY cruel and POTENTIALLY borderline inhumane to let her coach another year. Her disease is merciless and devastatingly unpredictable. She could be in the middle of a game and literally forget where she is, or who she is.. I know people who have early onset and they have good days and horrible days. Running her out on the court on one of those bad days is not fair to anyone involved especially Pat. The inevitable progression of her disease should not be witnessed in the midst of the public and she deserved to be honored while she is still in a relatively stable mindset. She went out on the top and went out the GREATEST. The problem with the greatest is that they can never just walk away. The decision usually needs to be made for them. If Hart did make the decision you can bet your a** he did it with Pat's best intentions as well as the University. I applaud him for making the tough decisions. I couldn't have done it. But either way I am certain the best decision was made.

Lets support him and his decisions!

The affidavit is the only the that slightly insinuates Summitt was not handled with class and dignity.

The initial press conference, Pat's new role, Pat's actions since her stepping aside, and Pat's statements to explain the affidavit suggest things were handled fine.
