Official SEC Championship Game Thread

Man he was acting like he was scared to get hit, whas up with that? Oh well, now this becomes another 4 loss season with the potential for 5 if we don't win our bowl game.

Bowl game needs to feature the future QBs, give Ainge one qtr and then play those QBs expected to fight for the starting job next year.

I'm really not sure why you say that. We have very few seniors on this team. Foster is only a Junior. Mayo is only a junior (though we might lose him). Berry is one of the oustanding talents I've seen. The WRs should pick it up. Looking forward to seeing more of Jones. Crompton was a top recruit, and I'm curious to see him play.

You may be right, but I'm just not seeing all that many negatives on the horizon.

coaching staff?

No penalties
Multiple sacks and stops for losses
Multiple 3rd downs and a fourth down stop
An interception
A fumble recovery

How can you lose a game when you're defense finally shows up to play? The game was ours, LSU gave it to us and we couldn't get it done.

I've already heard rumors to the effect of Phil and the boys getting contract extensions if they haven't already so if ya like it or don't I think that staff is gonna be there for awhile longer yet.

I think all is well for the most part with the coaching staff. This game saved a few coaches jobs (on D).

Graduation is going to move out some weaknesses for sure.....I think the Vols are going to be a force next year. The D could be fearsome on the line, LB, and Secondary, they impressed tonight.

So far Ainge still isn't out yet.

He's an amateur athlete. I'm trying to keep that in mind.

Having said that, he has NO future in the NFL. Rattle him once, and he makes nothing but mistakes after that.

He'll be lucky if he gets drafted. Maybe the Arena League.

Bring on Crompton.

go vols.

He finally came out. He didn't sound too broken up about it to me. Keeps on saying to bad decisions. Didn't come out and say it was my fault. No way he gets drafted. I'll have to see it to believe it.

It's rare, but not unheard of, to be able to point to one specific player as "the reason we lost the game".

Unfortunately for Erik Ainge, tonight it's him.

You can, and perhaps should, question the offensive playcalling in the second half.

You cannot question the play of the defense.

But there's no denying the fact that this game hinged on two plays, and both of them were interceptions thrown by Ainge. Like it or not, fair or not, his legacy at UT will always be tinged by what he did in this game.

Big players make big plays in big games.

Ainge didn't.

And so Ainge will join the pantheon of second tier athletes who had much promise and for whatever reason did not pan out.

I appreciate him regardless. He was a perfect fit for the underachieving less-than-stellar Vols.

With what is coming down the pike we will see more of the same. An east ring does not change the statistics of what we are or what we have.

Regardless, the best day as an LSU tiger is not better than the worst day as a Vol.

Go Vols. I'll be wearing my orange tomorrow.

With a bowl game pending, and after the recent rumors about contract extensions and raises, here's my question.....

Given this loss...and given Mike Hamilton's statement last year about "an SEC Championship every 4 years, and competing for the National Championship every 10 years"...

It will be, at least, 10 years between SEC Championships, and 10 years since we competed for a National Championship.

Not to mention our bowl record over the past 10 years....

Why would extensions or raises even be considered?

Maybe we expected too much for Erik (being Danny Ainge nephew). He was not a 5-star QB coming out of high school (I remember he was like the tenth rated pro type QB). Actually, I think he has overachieved this year. I am not angry at the young man, as I'm sure he did his best. There is something intangible about being a winner in the big game and EA may not have have this gift......I never did back in my limited athletics experience. I wish him the best in the future.

Did he actually say that, or did he just say that the staff would be taken care of? I missed a few days of the news cycle this week.

Regardless of what he said, this season would have to be considered "par" at best, given the expectations of this program.

Last year was a "bogie".

2005 was "pick up your ball and head in".

Given the way we were manhandled by Florida and Alabama, and now...having given away an SEC Championship...I just can't see how raises or extensions are called for, much less justified.

Oh...we got handled by a mid-pack Pac-10 team, too. Almost forgot.

It makes no sense. Mike Hamilton clearly states the goals, and standards, for the football program...then rewards less than he expects.

If that's the case, I'd love to work for Mike.

TO PUT IT DIRECTLY, THE CEO OF PILOT OIL, WHO IS THE vOLS BIGGEST CONTRIBTOR, IS A CLOSE FRIEND OF PHIL'S. NOTHING IN THE COACHING DEPARTMENT WILL CHANGE UNTIL THAT FACT CHANGES.
