Official OC search update thread...

I can handle DeBord as a quality control coach and sheridan as QBs coach. Also Azzani at OC isn't a bad idea. If butch wants to keep familiarity then this is the way to do it. I love this idea way more than DeBord at OC but would prefer a proven OC like Legg

and I guess we will go without a receivers coach.

I prefer CZA over Debord but still don't understand not hiring a more experienced OC that can Coach QB's and recruit. It may work out great but we haven't had much luck with "Experiments". With the momentum we have he is taking a huge chance on hiring a GA as QB Coach and a guy that has been an OC for one yr at WK, and wasn't like he did it under Petrino. I trust Butch with whatever he does but just sounds like an opportunity to majorly upgrade at OC and adding a good recruiter.

I don't see Debord taking a $20,000 a year position. I think GA's are only allowed to stay at a school for two years as well. Let's hope he has simply been advising Jones on the new OC but I think Debord will be hired. I am not thrilled about the hire but I have faith that Jones will make the right decision. His career depends on making the right hire.

Sunday Night Update Vols OC search update: Saturday night

Azzani is still a young coach and it's not like his receivers were so fantastic that he deserves a big bump. All of them had some good moments, but all of them also had some bad moments. Most of them are young though, it's not realistic to expect them to be completely mistake free. Azzani seems to be a really good recruiter and seems tight with his position group, those are great qualities, but to me being an OC is more than just being high energy or having the respect of the players. Is he a great tactician? Can he handle the pressure? Those are questions we just don't know. It's not a criticism, those are just unanswered questions. If I'm Butch this is what I do (as if my opinion means something!):

1. Move Azzani to QBs and give him the title of Passing Game Coordinator or Asst HC or... something that makes it clear he got a promotion because you don't want to lose his ability as a recruiter or his energy as a coach.
2. Promote a GA or find a young, up and coming coach to take over the WRs.
3. Hire a veteran coach like Mike DeBord to be your OC.

This takes the pressure off Azzani as OC, but still allows him to get valuable experience. It also allows Butch to find out if he's really up to the challenge. DeBord isn't a young coach any more, if Azzani performs well and starts getting offers then DeBord can "retire" and you promote Azzani to OC.

Honestly though, I have enough faith in Butch to make the right call. He knows what he's doing IMO.

Jones wants to keep Azzanni at Tennessee and is exploring ways to potentially do that, multiple sources have told GoVols247.

This sounds like the VQ post with Azzani to OC in some fashion. I'd be fine with it. At this point it sounds like Butch has to have someone he knows and trusts.
