Official OC search update thread...

I agree that we need to throw the bank at whomever Butch wants. They have a chance to really take a huge leap possibly win the east. Don't need to botch it with a guy they had to settle for.

He's still under the show cause penalty which means there is no way in double blue hell that any major program touches him. Tell your "insider" to try a little harder next time.

That show clause is really more if he is hired as a HC. If hired as a HC he would have to sit out the first 5 games from Coaching. Not sure how it works if its as a position Coach. Either way I think there are better and safer options. Butch needs to hire an eastablished playcaller that can also recruit. CMB wasn't much of a recruiter and if we can add an OC that has been successful and is a really good recruiter that just makes us that much better. Just look at Saban's staff. Top to botton every position coach they have/had are elite recruiters, guys like Kiffin, Steele(before he left), Thompson( before he left), NappierKyle etc..Can never have too many elite recruiters, especially when one is the OC/QB Coach.

idk...Tressel thinks a play action pass is a trick play.

Lol..Very true. Either way we have a shot at a major upgrade at playcalling and recruiting with this hire. Huge hire for Butch in going forward. Think he realizes now the SEC is full of staffs with elite recruiters and you can never have too many.

if there is one thing we should have learned about Butch by now, it's that he has a process or a plan for everything! I think Butch already has his man. I also think this didn't come as a surprise to the players due to the lack of social media chatter.

In the way this came out I'm not sure it wasn't a mutual decesion for him to find something else.

I would rather roll the dice on someone I have never heard of than go with Azzani.

I don't see Coach Z getting it. We need a more experienced play caller and need to add another great recruiter. Perfect opportunity and what OC wouldn't want to play call for one of the hottest, trending teams with all the skill players we have. Shouldn't be hard to convince a good OC to come Coach this offense.

I can bet that Jake didnt just walk into the.office and announce he was leaving and Butch's jaw hit the floor in shock. Its very convenient that this came after 2 QBs and Kamara already.signed. Butch knew this day would come and probably knew it shortly after the season. I'm sure he's got a list and has been working like heck - er- hard to get who he wants

Agreed. Wouldn't surprise me if this has been in the works for some time. Not like Coach Jake was a good playcaller, QB developer and even more importantly he isn't a good recruiter. And honestly OC needs to be a good recruiter at TN. We aren't like GA, Ala, LSU, FL etc that has tons of instate talent that easily gets who they want. We have to have really good recruiters and more the better.

Earlier I posted about an insider letting me know that Jim Tressel was being consider as a serious candidate for the open OC job. My last thread was deleted by a mod. I just wanted to show that my info was not info from a troll, but legitimate news being picked up by other sports analyst.

So dave hookers twitter is your source? Because didnt you say in your thread that you started that you had an inside source? Calm down Penocchio

Half of today's fan base probably doesn't have a clue that this would be a home run hire.

Wide Receiver U ! ! !

It would be but hiring a guy like Brown and other guys that run traditional offenses wouldn't be good hires. We gotta have a guy that runs and is familiar with the type offense we run. No way Butch hires a traditional offense guy, doubt he is looking to change offensive philosophies. We see how that went for Florida this yr. Making those type changes will set you back yrs if you have recruited spread type guys and swap to a more west coast or prostyle and vice versa. But if we were running more of a prostyle he would be a great hire.

Butch needs to make a splash hire?!?! Why, to make you get momentary warm and fuzzies? We have a great foundation of your very talented players and are in position to move back towards the top of the SEC-East, and compete for a spot in the SEC Championship game in the future. We need the RIGHT OC. Needing a splash hire is such a shallow mindset.

No, not at all. I said Hooker and others are confirming my source's statement

You say "others" but really it's only a tweet...that does not confirm anything, only speculates at best...where are these others and where are the confirmations?

The tweet read "flight from youngstown-??? to knoxville leaves at 6:15. Tressel to TN????"

All this confirms is that both Youngstown and Knoxville have airports, and flights scheduled to leave point A and land at Point C with a stop at point B......I could easily point out that a flight will undoubtedly leave Atlanta and head towards Knoxville...does this mean that GT's OC may be coming to TN?

I'm pretty certain that a guy with 20 years of NFL coaching experience would be able to figure out how to coach Butch's offense.

Further...do a Google search for "Tressel" and "Tennessee" with results posting from things updated in the past hour...you get two results...neither of which are pertinent to this topic at all.

Disagree. Maybe wouldn't use the term splash hire but upgrading the playcalling and recruiting will be huge in helping us take the next step. MB wasn't a good OC and was an even worse recruiter.. A good Coach can make players better and a bad coach can make great players average. With a bad OC hire or keeping MB I don't think we ever get to where we need to be. A good 'splash hire" could be what helps get us there. Look what our offenses dide under Fulmer when he had Cut as opposed to the yrs he didn't have Cut. When Cut came back itwas amazing what he did for Ainge and our offense and was something Sanders couldn't do. Then Cut leaves and our O goes to $ht. So this will be Butch's biggest hire to date.

CBJ has spent the last 3 years recruiting and building his offense around the spread and you want to bring in a pro style guy? Makes alot of sense :good!:

Agreed! We got firsthand proof how well that works when Clawson was brought in. That would just set us back again.
