Thanks for responding! My comment was not directed at him as an individual human being. I believe it was a perfect analogy. You tell me what you would call something that may have been good at some point in the past but is no longer wanted (as a coach)... I hate that it was to graphic for you but it's the truth.

Repaying a favor/debt.....

Comfortable hire......

Analogy - I have a very comfortable pair of well worn dress shoes that I wear occasionally - my wife tells me when I wear them that they need to go to goodwill or the trash - I respond "but they are the most comfortable pair of dress shoes that I own".

Now would I wear them to a meeting?

Would I wear to meet a prospective new client?

Would I wear them to a wedding or social event?

The resounding answer is "noooooooo". Those shoes sure are comfortable but are they the best shoes I own?

Not by a long shot! In fact, I purchased a new pair of dress shoes to replace those old, tired, worn shoes that needed to be replaced and because of a few upcoming very important meetings.

You really think Jones would risk what he's got and his reputation for that? You must not think much of him.

TIFWIW but a buddy of mine said Hubbs mentioned this morning that he thought DeBord was no longer a candidate because of his NFL offers. Havent seen this mentioned. Can anyone confirm?

The NFL must not be aware what the VN experts think of Debord. If they did, nobody would consider offering him a job.

I think he and his staff have done very well in recruiting. I think the defense played very well this year the offense not so much.

I saw some questionable game management by Jones in his last two seasons. I think Jones did pretty well at Cinci but not as well as his predecessor.

I am hoping that he will be able to get my beloved Vols back to championship caliber football. My love or fan-dom is for the program not the coach.

Those NFL guys are real idiots. Or, Hubbs is throwing that out there in order to make DeBord sound much more desirable. Oh hell, it's all a big conspiracy and the world is about to end.

If you don't think Jones and his staff manipulate most of the local (even regional) sports media like grand puppeteers then you must have just fallen off the turnip truck.

No NFL team is considering Debord. We are the only ones that have interviewed him for a position other than secretary.

Is Butch a great recruiter? Absolutely. Is he a great coach? The jury is still out. Is he a good coach? Yes. Could he be an idiot when it comes to assistants? He could be. I mean most on here were complaining about how bad Bajakian was. But now the same people are like "well it's Butch's offense so the OC doesn't matter."

So was Bajakian that bad? If so that means Butch is an idiot for bringing him in as OC. If it had nothing to do with Bajakian, then Butch is an idiot for running the offense like he did.

That expresses your opinion on him clearly and doesn't leave doubt. I would not waste your words here as that action probably will not help.

I suggest a petition. If you can convince enough people of the idiocy you mentioned, you may be able to get results. I have no doubt the guy that suggested "coward", will get you started and who knows from there.

However, many of those same people decided Bajakian was a genius when Dobbs came in.

Give me ONE decent excuse for delaying the Debord hire (if true) until NSD or later. Just ONE.

If this hire has been a done deal for over a week as some state then why not announce and give kids an opportunity to make an informed decision. I wouldn't want my kid to play for a coach that will yank the rug out from under his feet just so he can save face on the recruiting trail.

I love Butch Jones but that doesn't mean he is perfect. He has his weaknesses and hiring good assistants could be one of them. If he hires Debord and we see no offensive improvement, than it will be an idiotic move.

However if Debord comes in and we see offensive improvement, then it will be I who looks like the idiot. We shall see.

I can give one but I doubt you will accept.
I will try anyway.
*If he has already decided on Debord, it has been made clear, it will be met with several questions by some. The answers will require a certain amount of his time.
He is a bit busy right now, Calls are still allowed, numbers must be adjusted and this class must have a great finish. That is priority #1.

On the recruits: Why do you guys assume that you are able to conclude the hire but the recruits don't know?

and are still staying?

I wasn't talking about Debord. You said he was either an idiot for the offense or an idiot for the Bajakian hire.
No other options. You stated one way or the other, he was an idiot.

I just thought that most was a bad OL -for my opinion.
I definately don't believe Jones is perfect. Your language just suggested he is far worse than I believe.
You may be right. If you truly feel that strongly, maybe you should push the issue.
