Official Nashville Predators Thread

If Carolina and Tampa Bay can win a cup so can Nashville. I have no problem with big free agents not wanting to come to Nashville. I'd bet most of their no trade lists include Carolina and Tampa Bay. The problem was partly coaching(I appreciate what Trotz did) but you need to score to win. Drafting better offensive players would be a plus too. I think it's easier to keep "home grown" talent in the NHL as compared to other leagues IMO.
Do you think Liepold expected to keep the team in Nashville long term? Did the Del Biaggo financial troubles hurt their ability to keep up the payroll? These are a couple of the conspiracy theories that I've heard over the years.

Leipold backing out of selling to Balsillie is the only reason there's a team there.

Ribiero signed for 1 yr / 1.05 mil

Rumor has it we will be signing Roy within the next couple hours.

The Preds load up on 2 centers. Now I know Ribiero behaves like a felon and Roy might or might not show any effort, but we got 2 centers!

Now what's next? I'm expecting Wilson to be traded.

If they sign Roy on top of Ribeiro why would there be a need to trade Wilson? For who?

Poile stated that we were going to play younger players this year. With the addition of Roy I believe--my opinion--that Poile will be unloaded some people.

With the addition of Roy we are looking at Jarnkrok or Forsberg being in the AHL this year. Jarnkrok has proven he has the potential to be great. Hell, Detroit said Jarnkrok was an eventual top 6 center/wing.

So that's why I think Poile will be moving someone today.

I can only hope we can somehow get rid of Stalberg. However, I doubt most teams will fall for that. So I'm sensing a potential Wilson trade.

Wilson has never really been great here, but he hasn't been too poor (except for last season). So he would be the likely person moved.

Jarnkrok won't be in Milwaukee to start the year. Poile said today that Gaustad has the #4 C spot locked up & that Ribeiro will play with Neal on the first line, Roy will play with Smith on the second & Jarnkrok will probably play #3 C.

It's looking like:

Neal-Ribeiro-Wilson/Forsberg/Stalberg
Jokinen-Roy-Smith
Cullen-Jarnkrok-Forsberg/Wilson/Stalberg
Nystrom-Gaustad-Bourque/Clune

Josi-Weber
Volchenkov/Ekholm-Jones
Ekholm/Volchenkov-Ellis
Bartley

Rinne.

Pretty solid team imo..looks a lot better than last year when Nashville only missed the post season by 3 points with basically an AHL roster.

Good risk/reward type deal. If he can feed it to Ribeiro can get the puck to Neal it could work out. I'll be interested to see what happens when Fish gets back. If anything this makes the Jokinen signing look more odd.

I actually this he will see as much benefit from the coaching change as anybody. His game is all about speed and he just wasn't a fit with Trotz at all. Hopefully something clicks this year, or he'll just be a giant sunk cost.

Stalberg has lots of speed but no finishing capabilities. Half the time he can barely even keep possession of the puck. Hopefully things will change but I'm not holding my breath.

I have a hard time getting on the Tank for McDavid bandwagon. Although that would be nice. I'm glad Poile picked up the two centers. I'm hoping the team might be good this year.

They're going to be ok, doubt they're better than the playoff teams this year though.

They're still weak up the middle, and don't have any #1 pivot who would be a #2 for the big western teams. They got Roy and Sniffy for cheap, and one year, so I think they did well.

I would still happily trade the Captain to Toronto for JVR, Kadri, Gardiner, and a 1.

For Weber to be dealt, a superstar would have to be coming back. I'm a fan of JVR & Gardiner but I'd rather take a package from Edmonton involving some combo of Hall/Nuge/Klefbom/1st.

I agree though, what would be best for Nashville would be McDavid/Eichel.

But I have a feeling with what they've added this offseason is just enough to either squeak into the playoffs or just be on the outside looking in. Leave yourself with a mid round draft pick per usual.
