Official Nashville Predators Thread

I didn't read every page since the OS was signed, so SIAP....

but this contract is beyond anything the NHL has ever seen. We've seen huge front-loaded contracts before but nothing like this. It was designed for the Preds to not be able to match it. I believe it's over 60% in "signing bonuses". The cap hit is nothing. (7.8 mil)

We would owe him $56 mil in cash the first 4 years of the contract, and $26 mil in the first calendar year. ($13 mil when he signs, $1 mil salary for the season, and another $13 mil next July).

This is not only something that the Preds can't afford to do without a loan, I've read speculation that probably 27-28 of the teams in the NHL couldn't afford to do without taking out a loan.

So it's not as easy as just "match it". The Preds don't have $26 mil in the bank just lying around to give to Shea.

My thought is that they are trying to figure a way to match, but if it's not financially possible they will likely come up with a "gentleman's agreement" to trade back some of the 1sts they would get from Philly (for not matching) for roster players. Vorachek, Mazeros + are rumored.

Deadline is tomorrow night at midnight.

That sounds about right. Poile is in a tough spot. However, he and the owners put themselves in this situation by not being able to come to an agreement with Weber (and Suter too even though he was an UFA) over the last year and letting it get to this point where they had to match an offer sheet.

From what I've read and gathered, the arbitration isn't helping them. That seemed to really piss off the Weber camp.

Either the owners are trying to get other investors/loans in the last hour or they're doing some dealing with the Flyers like you said. I'm afraid it's the latter.

Isnt Nashville prepared to pay Weber 100M anyway? It just seems as though they will have to make a bigger down payment than they originally thought. Shouldnt be a problem to get a loan for that, since it looks like cash flow is what will hinder them for making that initial front end commitment.

Its laughable that you have the "Im the smartest guy in the room" mentality.

Never claimed that. I'm just laughing at someone that thinks they know more about hockey because they are a Canuck or yankmee. Well here's your hero badge.

Tell us, how old were you the last time the Flyers won the Cup?

Who's a yankee? There again, making assumptions about things you dont have the first clue about. I wasnt even alive in 1975, what is your point? How old were you the last time the preds made it to the Conference Finals...............oh wait.

That isn't an assumption in regards to Canucks and yankmees. That's usually a given.

And my point about you not even being alive in 1975? Well, you told me all I need to know in regards to your age. Thanks.

Whats that? That you are capable of simple addition? Glad you cleared it up, because it was in question. I was born a year later, but Im not really sure what that has to do with anything.
