I could be off on this, I'm certainly not as self-assured as the contrarians seem to be. But I recall his camp saying he was not a candidate, or interested, or contacted...something before the official firing.

I'm certainly not invested enough to argue with the haters.

I seem to remember it like you as well... however I was fully involved at the time and wanted it to happen so my memory could be clouded

so we assume a meeting took place?

Don't worry someone will be along shortly to belittle you because you can't read between the lines or interpret what the "clear" meaning is from some obscure tweet or post.

I love how people have all this great info, type 2-3 paragraphs of nonsense, and this place blows up.

38 Days: How Alabama Pulled off the Great Heist of Nick Saban

This is a pretty good read, and shows that even Moore had problems getting Saban there, even publicly had problems.

I'm not saying Currie is doing the same thing, but it seems to me that he is somewhat trying to take the Moore approach after reading it and looking at what all Currie has/hasn't done so far
I’ve never read all of that before. Really let’s you know that anything is possible.

Also let’s you know that Dave Hart was so amateur hour it was ridiculous.

I may repeatly hit myself in the head with a ball peen hammer if we hire Dan Mullen.

If UF hires him instead of Frost...

Probably best to defer to the experts that think we're all idiots for wanting Gruden. They get the benefit of the doubt for being the smartest guys in the room.

Not weird at all when there was a rumor that a group of Chattanooga attorneys were responsible for the plane over the Bama game.

How are you going to empty Neyland without owning the tickets to ensure seats are empty??

Not rumor. Fact.

Edit: on the banner

I've been in sales a long time and know what 100% means. It doesn't mean, "That sounds great. Send the paperwork over." or "Let's schedule a meeting next week and wrap this up."

While those things may sound good, it's not 100%. 100% is signed, sealed, delivered, and the check has cleared. Everything up until that point is pretty meaningless.

How the **** do you do that when you have a sitting coach? Just to clarify what it means is, he agreed to the terms 100% and agreed to move on to the next phase. That is 100%. The douches in charge will either **** it up or be looked at like heroes. That is how negotiations work. If you need some tips let me know.

Didn't happen. Sorry.

My insiders contacted me this morning and informed me that Gruden, indeed, did not comment on the job before Dooley was fired. Confirmed.

what has haynesworth said positive this morning. i must've missed that. a little help?

I haven't heard him say anything positive in the last day or so. In fact he had one tweet that cussed out CBJ and Currie over Antone Davis.

He tweeted out late last night that he will be on Knoxville Fox radio today.

Good morning everyone... make today awesome. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. Park further away and enjoy the walk. Complain less about things you can’t control and be grateful for the blessings in your life. We’ve all got one shot at life so let’s make it count. The 2 most important days in life-the day you were born and the day you realize why. Here’s to the return of TN football!

Best post I’ve read on this thread in days! Thanks rev!

How does one recruit to a sh!t hole like Starkville? So what your saying is he coach's them up.

Double <sigh>

Mullen is a good game coach. Develops what he has and makes the most of it. Pulls some upsets from time to time.

But don't give me this **** he cannot recruit to Moo State. A good coach can recruit talent to Death Valley if they wanted to. It's about the program, the winning tradition and the dynasty he SHOULD HAVE built by now. However, he's content to win 6-8 games every year with zero expectations from his loyal fan base that's paying him GOOD MONEY to win those 6-8 games and collect an Egg Bowl trophy.

He has not, repeat NOT shown the desire to improve the program or facilities nor translated on field performance into recruiting in the eight, EIGHT years he's been at Mississippi State.

And this is the coach you would want at Tennessee if we can't get a "big boom" hire?

It's been said 10000 times that "control" is the issue. Control of what specifically?

Someone explained to me, control over the coach and football program. Bring in a big name, celebrity coach and the Haslam's lose the ability to basically tell the coach to come to charity events, do what they say etc. Big name boosters at Bama aren't asking Saban to give up his free time to do their bidding. Haslam is able to do that to someone like Butch.

Everything.

As for Gruden, I assume it's to be on par with Saban's control level at Alabama.

i totally get this.

If you haven't figured out that this thread has astronomical ups and catastrophic downs for no real reason than I don't know what else to say lol.

People are getting bent out of shape because Beav doesn't post enough or he posts too much on twitter or they over analyze a word he typed and determine it doesn't fit their narrative.

Honestly man you're not missing anything. I think a lot of people on here are too close to the situation and expect to find a "reason" or some secret message in everything that's posted. Just need to take a step back from it all once in awhile and relax
.

I am still in for the fun and banter. My belief is we are no place different than a few weeks ago a 3rd party reached out and provided a hypothetical scenario to our guy and received a "yes if that were to happen I would be interested to hear more and talk about it"..No more..But hey that's just me

Great question. I'd like to know as well. My guess is another vague hurdle that no one can explain and built-in excuse when Gruden doesn't come.

I asked this question a few threads back.. The answer I got was that the boosters, AD and AA like to control what the team spends money on. They tell them where they can spend money, which vendors they can use, who they can/can’t offer scholarships to, who they can hire for admin positions, etc.

For example, a booster might say “you can only have my donation if you put my nephew on the equipment staff”
