I know that but the comment I replied to said it felt different from 2012, where we had Gruden's agent say he's not interested, where as now we've heard nothing.

Then he gave the article as an example

Why would he care? Baseless rumors wouldn't affect him whatsoever. And for the record, I am 100% confident we have at least reached out to him.

You know what would affect the him? Disrespecting a coach he knows pretty well by commenting on his position before its even open.

I think the Haslams got cold feet in 2012 about the loss of influence in the AD after negotiations with Coach Gruden. They made a last minute decision to bail (See Browns/McCarron as example)

Fast forward to 2017 and the Haslams already know what they’re going to have to give up in power pre-negotiation. They knew the writing was on the wall with Butch. They installed Currie behind everyone’s back to shore up their position against hiring Coach Gruden and his demands for control (see boosters vs. Bryant Jr. at Alabama). But Ergen’s side was ready this time. Currie’s approach to another coach may actually be an attempt to call Ergen’s bluff (see how serious he really is). Ergen, et al, is ready for just such a move and has a little help from a furry friend to gain support from the fan base. A little help from a venture capital firm to gain support from the Chancellor (see her decision to keep facilities management in-house). And, possibly, Peyton Manning with his rumored outside support for something???? Now, Mr. Haslam and Jr., are you on-board or not? (See once again Alabama vs. Bryant, Jr.).....

I do agree with this. Silence from either party in regards to Gruden will mean something AFTER Currie puts Butch out of his misery.

But, if you can control your temps you can cook with anything. The ceramic marketplace is becoming really saturated with some really good products. The next time I get the urge to buy a new smoking toy there are a lot of options that catch my eye.

There’s a BBQ joint down here (Hattiesburg) that has the best pull pork I have ever eaten in my life. The joint is owned by a Cajun family and is called Three Little Pigs.

It is pretty damn solid.

Not BBQ, but check out Pier 98. My cousin owns it. Born and raised in the Hattiesburg area, but he is a Vol fan.

point i was making is ... why is everybody (not pointing you out coasty, i mean seemingly everybody) so positive today? nothing makes sense.

what has transpired that's got everybody giddy?

i missed something, and i'm reading the posts trying to catch up, not wanting to be spoonfed, but would like a little help.

i feel like the short kid that can't reach the top shelf, always relying on somebody else to hand it to him. honestly, that's more frustrating to me than anything else (i know, sounds like a personal problem).

i thought in the BOT meeting when they voted to do the renovations, they did so based upon the $ the centennial group (ergen and boosters) were pledging, with the caveat that if they didn't get gruden, they'd pull the $, meaning we get gruden.

then last night, mud starts hitting the wall, everybody was down like no deal, haslam won, and i'm like, what in the world happened.

then this morning, there was a meeting, swain knows, ect ect.

i'm really trying to keep up, but i cannot.
somebody help me fill in the gaps.
what am i missing.

ps-and i'm not freaking out.

It's easy to overcome for me...they have to make a Gruden sized effort for me to ever care again. Doesn't have to be him, though that's my obvious choice, but it better be a big money homerun swing. I want to see a commitment to reaching a championship level, before I commit again.

Agreed. Gruden is the guy I want but if not him I don't want someone that the AD has to list his accomplishments to try and sell me. I should know all about the next hire.

I keep going back to this very issue. If Gruden was not in serious play, we would be told by an unquestionable source. Everyone knows that in the current environment, anyone but Gruden is going to be a disappointment. It would be far better to cut the Gruden mania so people could get excited about someone else. The fact the rumors are allowed to fester, tells me all I need to know. Same was true in '12, and we almost had him.
