Did anyone else watch Currie’s presentation to BOT? They are getting items passed for full approval and that’s a big deal! Currie laid out the Neyland renovations with supporting slides. Lots of upgrades with a promise to keep Neyland as one of the largest seating capacity venues in college football. Additional sky boxes, enlarged area for recruiting/entertaining in the south end zone. Better stadium access areas with state of the art security. In other words, an incredible upgrade to an already incredible stadium. Interestingly enough, the measure to increase total phase 1 funding from $108 million to $160 million was passed, with a savings, get this, of $ 9 million vs. the original assessment. Then, Currie got into funding the project. And yes, you guessed it, they already have $50 million in committed/pledged funds from high level boosters. That segment will carry the weight of this project. Other areas contributing, broader booster support, fan fundraising, operating revenues, and debt. In the q & a, I don’t know who it was that asked the question, but the point was made that given the amount of expense and the scope of the project, has the AD considered that a high level of performance was expected? Also, there were many in attendance who chuckled and mumbled under their breath regarding “other” new areas of funding that have been approved for other areas in the University.

Paraphrased. TIFWIW.

This is untrue. Haslam aided the quest for Gruden in 2012. His resources were used to court Gruden then, he obviously approved. The academic side wasn't willing to give Gruden the control he wanted. It wasn't the Haslam's.

then this shouldn't be a problem.
if haslam is in board, ergen has pacified academia, then this shouldn't be a problem.

so is there a problem with getting gruden here?

not attacking, just trying to understand.

Literally no concrete evidence of any kind of internal "power struggle" or that Haslam is/was/will be anti-Gruden. That family has donated countless millions of dollars to the university and athletic department. Kind of ****ty to turn on someone like that because of some very vague, unsubstantiated, and untrustworthy internet rumors.

The fact that you're relying on UT/Jones to hire an inept attorney, and the collective stupidity of a jury, indicates you agree with me but just want to argue with me.

I never argued that he isn't inept. And inept != "deliberately ignored". And there is a HUGE moat between "concussions are dangerous" and "this is Jones' fault".

You have a lot more attorneying to do. I get it. You think everyone is stupid enough to hear a sad story about brain damage and want to pin it on the coach. It still doesn't mean that Jones is immediately culpable for an assistant coach defying procedures and doing something behind the coach's back.

No amount of your "it's not about right and wrong, but what I can get stupid people to grant" will change that.

Apparently I haven't been clear. I believe that I could convince a jury that Jones was at the very least negligent with regard to Brett's health and maybe even acted with reckless disregard for it. Is it a slam dunk? Nope, but it's sure as hell not as tough a case as you believe.

I never assumed a stupid jury or an incompetent opposing attorney.

Your view on this is that the head coach could not have known. I disagree to the point that I believe he should have known or actually knew. Furthermore, Wells will not say he intentionally disregarded his training. He will say he didn't know. This will become a finger pointing exercise between defendants with Jones accusing Wells of lying and Wells saying he didn't notice anything. If you believe he didn't know anything then Jones did not train him properly. There are two theories of liability that give me a decent shot at Jones.

Your defense of him is baffling.

Looks like a win for the new blood right there.

I'll also say this, I'm not a big fan of the Haslams and actually don't go to Pilot for some of the political decisions made by Bill. But there are a certain segment of boosters who do dislike them far more than I do and who for years have spread a lot of misinformation about them as far as any problem with Vol football goes.

Not sure if that's what's happening here, but it wouldn't surprise me.

And they will need one hot product on the field to sustain that imo

I think I'm just starting to understand the true scope of what is going on here. Ergen is a man ready to change the entire landscape of the university in every possible way. Incredible and necessary if we want our state to be the very best.
not necessarily directed just at that post ....call me crazy but 2 weeks ago is when the pissing contest scenario surfaced for me. It's been puzzle piece after puzzle piece ever since !

Think of the power players at UT. Of that group think about which of them would routinely play at the Honors course.

and yes, the list can be found. I forget who keeps saying it in here but the "interwez is a powerful thing"
