Official Jon Gruden Thread XXVI

Anyone in/around Knoxville, watch channel 6 news at 4 pm. They’re interviewing students around campus about the stadium but I tried to get my message across to Currie. I added a fire butch at the end of my response.

I'm leaning strongly this direction based on a couple of things.

I don't believe Currie is the bad guy here. I'm told he's very well liked by the power brokers, and they were very impressed with his prep for the coaching "search".

I think he is actually the one pushing for the shift back to more of an independent AD...and it's causing academic heartburn . He may end up being the hero in all of this when he pulls it off.

We'll see....I think we are trending correctly, and recent "events" have been a speed bump.

I truly hope that this is the case.

I didn’t wanna sound so nega Grude, just had some concerns! Plus, Behr wouldn’t share the chow chow.

I always sound nega.... that is how I roll.... I love the ups and downs of this thread.... guess I am addicted

I hope it happens.... we get Gruden but if it doesn't the thread itself is worth the time I post

Here I am...the first lunchtime Debbie Downer. I'm through with all of it. Offer still stands SFD to eat the crow wing-style if I'm wrong, but it's done in my mind.

I've enjoyed/been aggravated, frustrated by this thread for weeks but I think the writing is on the wall concerning my understanding of the situation.

Hawk, you pimp the journey. Well, so far, this journey has sucked. Have there been some highs? Sure. But overall, it has all been just one big gut punch.

Chill.

Doyle's Grudometer is at 15% this morning.

After all the allegations of concussions, head of VFL resigning, and shouting matches between Currie and Jones, you would think if the AD truly had an ace in his pocket like Gruden now would definitely be the time to play it. With the public perception that the hill is burning to the ground you would think that he would at least go ahead and pull the trigger on Jones in an attempt to douse the flames even if he wasn't ready to announce to the general public who the next hire would be. I find it troubling to even consider that the powers that be might be willing to sit back and allow the Tennessee brand to be dragged through the mud in order to possibly save some money. Things seem to be getting uglier and uglier by the day with seemingly nothing being done to correct it.

No offense to his followers but I still don't get the fascination with the Beaver man. Maybe I'm just missing something but the only thing I have seen him predict that makes me pause from outright calling him a troll is the movement on some obscure offshore betting line. All of his predictions on the media coverage could have easily been made by any of us. If you take a moment to suspend your belief that Gruden is the hire and look at from possibility that he is a pipe dream, it's not hard to see. Of course the media won't initially talk about Gruden because it's far fetched. Then as more and more fans begin to clamor for Gruden the media will be forced to report on it pointing out the near impossibility of the idea. When that does no good the next logical step is to report on the questions that Gruden could even be a successful coach in order to talk people off of the ledge of disappointment once a hire is made and that hire is not Jon Gruden.

As far as the other insiders go (Boro, DTO, OV) they have consistently said over and over that they are only 100% predicting that Jones will not be coaching at Tennessee next season. Never once have I seen them say that without a doubt Gruden will be the hire. Too many people seem to want to jump to that conclusion because it is what they want to believe. Too many are reading in between the lines instead of taking what is said at face value. Yet, if something happens and the hire is not Gruden these same people will be coming back here to crucify these gentlemen for misleading them.

Sorry for the tldr post but I just wanted to attempt to explain where I am at and why I'm there. I like to look at things from both sides of the equation and draw my conclusions from doing so. I am not attempting to argue that my opinion is right or attack anyone who may disagree. I may very well be wrong and sincerely hope that I am.

Admittedly, this ride has been fun. But I have kept my sanity and emotions in check by playing the wait and see approach (even believe it when I see it). I don't subscribe to "Gruden to the Hill" as a fantastical pipe dream, cause it isn't; however, I'm not invested enough to burn my mattress should things preclude the deal from closing and the proverbial wheels come off. I want Gruden as much as anyone here, but what disturbs me are the trends we've seen within the UTAD for 10+ years. These trends were begat by patterns; which were begat by bad habits; which were begat by flaws. Even worse, the death grip on power by all affiliated factions concerns me the most. Bev was a problem, and may still be, but I believe she's been pacified with either a promise or a threat. You step-side and sit your incompetent *** down and you will be rewarded, or you stick your nose where it's not needed, we force you aside and relinquish all funding. She has no choice but to comply or commit a fatal, self-inflicted wound to her career. As for the booster side, I don't even know where to start or what to believe. It can be agreed upon that the Haslams have wielded power for far too long and they need to be neutralized. We need their funding and support, but we also need cooperation.

Currie, on the other hand, is either the best bluffer to ever take a seat at a high-stakes game of hold 'em, or he's by far the dumbest, most incompetent empty suit to ever lead an athletic dept. I'm convinced of this, and there's no middle ground for me.

It is possible that Currie had a buy out worked out with Butch and wanted to have him leave in a comfortable and very friendly type way. Then when the Kendrick story came out it placed Currie in a position where he felt he was backed against the wall and may need to do something that would place him and the university in a bad light. (thus the argument Sunday night between him and Butch)

Currie now must reconsider all the different ways this could go down, want Butch to be gone but does not want it to be nasty..... so now his time is being spent trying to figure how to make that happen

The Kendrick situation is ammunition for interests in the University who hate the football program. Not downplaying player safety AT ALL, but this is the biggest bullet in the arsenal for academics vs. athletics. The eggheads love research $$$, but they also love moral superiority. I wouldn't be surprised if AA tried to leverage the Kendrick situation to their advantage, notwithstanding any other arrangements that may have been reached to date.

I have been like someone else on here said just a nobody with NO connections at all. I have been "trying" to keep up with this thread because I feel like it is one of a VERY few that have people that truly do have some connection or information. I have one question that maybe some of you can answer for me... WHY in the world would CPF and PM anyone else as connected and an integral part of Tennessee football stand back with all of this trashing of this University in the public eye and NOT come out and say ENOUGH is ENOUGH!! Do something and DO IT NOW!!??

Understand I have never posted anything here before other than looking for tickets to games but am an AVID VOLS and LADY VOLS fan in the land of puppies and dogs... Just looking for something to hold on to I guess.

We've had enough downs, it's time for UPS. And it is time for Tennessee to get it right. It's not about entertainment even thought that's all fun and games. This is very serious crossroads for UT. It's about Tennessee getting the right man, it's about the direction of this University for the future. Not pointing this at you, just giving my stance. The final outcome is what I am concerned about. SOON! GBO! GET IT FREAKIN DONE!

Erik Ainge and Brian Rice are unbelievable. They’re actually trying to downplay the Kendrick situation. They will go down with the ship I guess

Under the current microscope of both concussions and CBJ that has been prevalent for some time, it’s hard to imagine people knowingly pushing a cuncussed player out into the field. Their may be guilty parties here but, like all dramatic scenarios that had engulfed this program in recent years, I would let the investigation play out before pointing fingers. I believe CBJ cares about his players at the very least. Hard to imagine he had anything to do with this.

Unless you saved the recipe, you'll never experience its awesomeness.

And don't think you can just do a quick search and find it. I have already deleted it.

You spoke for more than yourself here. Pretty in line with how I feel. Especially the beaver stuff. I've seen people get mad when he is questioned. Specifically saying "Prove anything he has said is wrong". Fair enough. But other than the betting line I haven't seen anything he has said proven right. Aside from a bartenders name. Which could be just as easily known if he were a caddy or cook at that club.

No. He's a TN fan who went to law school at vandy.

And he's a better media option. Along with someone else in the local media to get the media and information campaign escalated and peaked..Clay is now national

Edit: removed any insinuations

What was wrong with my post? besides the day? I have been in that position where I had an underperforming employee and needed to let them go, but wanted to make it as comfortable as possible.... just because of community perception...
