Official Jon Gruden Thread XXVI

Erik Ainge and Brian Rice are unbelievable. They’re actually trying to downplay the Kendrick situation. They will go down with the ship I guess

I'm not listening to what they are saying, but I'll put it this way: This is a non story if Butch is sitting with one loss right now.

And by non story, I mean no one really knows what happened, if anything. The fact that this was so readily leaked says all you need to know about the state of the entire AD.

I’m on board with this

I'm leaning strongly this direction based on a couple of things.

I don't believe Currie is the bad guy here. I'm told he's very well liked by the power brokers, and they were very impressed with his prep for the coaching "search".

I think he is actually the one pushing for the shift back to more of an independent AD...and it's causing academic heartburn . He may end up being the hero in all of this when he pulls it off.

We'll see....I think we are trending correctly, and recent "events" have been a speed bump.

This. Homie.

There is an internal investigation going on until there is a mutual parting of ways. It is bad for both sides to fire Butch for cause.

Its simple.... Currie needs to suspend butch based on the fact that a players safty was comprised and that it was obvious to the naked eye on Tv that that was the case. If the investigation shows he is innocent... Then he ia back next week. The fact that a players safety is in question is the huge issue and Butch is responsible until proven otherwise

It's possibly a legal out, but the details that are public are fuzzy enough for me to say it's not a slam dunk. I think that's why they are doing the internal investigation. IF they decide to fire for cause, they have to be SURE. Otherwise, they will end up in litigation with Butch for years to come, dirty laundry gets aired on both sides, and the dark cloud hangs over the program even with the presence of a shiny new coach.

The cleanest and clearest possible separation between UT and Butch is in the best interests of those two parties, but the situation with Kendrick has made that more problematic.

It is possible that Currie had a buy out worked out with Butch and wanted to have him leave in a comfortable and very friendly type way. Then when the Kendrick story came out it placed Currie in a position where he felt he was backed against the wall and may need to do something that would place him and the university in a bad light. (thus the argument Sunday night between him and Butch)

Currie now must reconsider all the different ways this could go down, want Butch to be gone but does not want it to be nasty..... so now his time is being spent trying to figure how to make that happen

I’ll agree with you there. If we’re having a good season, the noise wouldn’t be as loud

Need that HearGrumors or whatever that posters name is, to show up. You missed him while you were hanging in the Islands. Hes a lawyer.

I wondered what happened to you.... no one to fuss with me here except Behr and he is just old and grouchy like me

I didn’t wanna sound so nega Grude, just had some concerns! Plus, Behr wouldn’t share the chow chow.

Hmmm interesting. Beaver said he would try to make it look like he was the hero in all of this

JMO, but a fast break with Butch is not as desirable as a clean break. At least as clean a break as can be achieved.

Agreed. But the only thing imo that would justify their poor handling of everything would be having Chuckie in the bag as Tennessee's next coach. The positive attention that it would bring to our brand would be so immense. Even greater than the Saban hire at that time. Any negativity about UT would be a forgotten thought

If Gruden is indeed a done deal I could see Currie being handcuffed knowing this storm will soon pass

Soon!

The boosters have Gruden locked up...
Just as they did in 2012.

What is the hold up with the athletic administration?

I'd say most of this is possible, but the fight wasn't until Tuesday night. On Sunday night it seemed like he was about to be done.

Here I am...the first lunchtime Debbie Downer. I'm through with all of it. Offer still stands SFD to eat the crow wing-style if I'm wrong, but it's done in my mind.

I've enjoyed/been aggravated, frustrated by this thread for weeks but I think the writing is on the wall concerning my understanding of the situation.

Hawk, you pimp the journey. Well, so far, this journey has sucked. Have there been some highs? Sure. But overall, it has all been just one big gut punch.

Lulz..

Here's a question you may not be able to answer Boro.

At what point does Currie finally step in and say "this is how it is, get over it, I"m the boss"?

From what it sounds like, it seems and excuse the term, the inmates are running the asylum

It's no quite that simple when the inmates have a contract.

I think now, though, that the fast break becomes the clean break. A quick parting of ways without admission of guilt or laying of blame would help both parties.
