Yes, I remember all of that. I just went back and watched his press conference and his 1st team meeting. He said the only place he would have left Cincy was to come to Tennessee. Oh and Colorado, which he had verbally accepted 4 days earlier. He also said he came here to win championships.

But we didn't know he was talking about life championships at the time

lol... question is, did he win the press conference? IIRC he nailed it!! I think I even ate it up like a big ol batch of Barbs Chip dip

Get Gruden and the buyout will take care of itself. We cannot be so consumed with the buyout that miss out on our big return. The buyout money can be made up quickly with the right hire and we know who that is. So just DO IT! SOON!!!!!! GET IT DONE NOW!

Losing faith in Currie. No faith in admin. Losing faith rapidly with boosters. No one looks good right now. Everyone looks terrible. Currie looks weak. Admin looks too powerful. Boosters look disorganized and detached because they haven’t gotten it done.

Something has to give... and the way it looks right now isn’t good.

I lost faith years ago. UT hasn't had a competent AD since Dickey retired in the 90's. That's why all the mediocre football. But, I'm still a fan and I have hope for a better future.

Not a game theory nerd, but I do think this has put Currie in a mighty bind.

Butch's contract has a mitigation clause, and Currie would obviously support Butch's quest for another job. It's a win/win and avoids the unpleasantness of trying to find cause for termination. By stinking this up, Butch has greatly reduced his value in the market...at no loss to himself, but at great loss to UT. If Currie takes the high road, UT suffers. If Currie pushes this event as a basis for termination, UT regains the money, but at significant cost in drama.

There really is no win for Currie. Waste millions to maintain a relatively peaceful and drama free transition, or push for termination for cause to save up to the full buyout, but invite pain, drama, and litigation. All because (fired) Butch didn't take care of his player. Insult on injury. Crap sandwich, indeed.

Wrong! It doesn’t have to get aired out. The threat of lengthy and costly litigation ending in possible defeat is enough to reduce his buyout substantially. Butch gets to keep coaching into the future and we save money. On the flip-side, Butch never coaches again for endangering a player and we save money. Butch will deal.

There’s a huge win for Currie. Get Gruden (if it’s possible). Worried about Butch’s buyout later.

The two things are substantially decoupled. Sure, Currie gets an improved coach if Butch is fired, but Butch put Currie in a very uncomfortable squeeze because of this. I realize that $10M or so for the buyout is small compared to the full deal, but Butch has still given him a $10M kick in the teeth. Might explain the purported shouting match.

Amen!! And I just keep waiting for them to prove me wrong but they never do.... what is it now? Like 18 years and counting since CDD retired?

Several of you posters had some great answers. I will have to buy a fine bottle of scotch and do a tasting with 4-5 of you at one of the home games next year. I will post the exact answer that I had for the game theory payoff once Butch has been formally fired. I do not want to give the competitors insight into how they should be thinking about it. If you answered then DM me on Twitter and we can pick a game as a group.

I almost passed out reading this. Kept having to remind myself to take breaths.

I apologize for the shortage of breath.....was just venting a little. I think we all share the same passion but at the same time share the frustration with lack of action. Maybe I should have kept to lurking and not posting. We all have the common goal regardless of who is leading this effort. Be the best we can be and make us proud. GBO.

any prediction of when said firing takes place? :) I'm thinking he doesn't make it to the weekend.....

Nostalgic for Joe Johnson, Holt and Dickey right about now. Leaders with the spine and wherewithal to recognize incompetence, and the fortitude to react in the best interests of UT.

I guess it depends if Butch will deal. If he does, then yes, I agree. He's pretty stubborn and prideful, and I don't think he's too bright either. Hopefully his agent will talk sense into him.

Dickey retired in '02, IIRC

Though I believe that GV, Hawk and others, that have said similar things, are probably correct. I'll play the other side. Devil's advocate: Could the situation actually give the AA the power play heading into the meetings. As in: "if this is how you are going to run the ship, then we are not giving up total control". Of course this theory suggests that the AD and the AA have not fully signed off in agreement, yet. If the battle lines are as deeply rooted as some say, then the AA would (theoretically) wish the Gruden hire to fail. Thus leaving most everything as is. Next mid major coach up.

Not what I believe, I'm just looking at all sides. And everyone else had the booster / currie angle going.

The AA is the reason Jones is here in the first place. If the boosters had gotten their way in 2012 we wouldn't be here in the first place. The AA's position is WEAK on every level. SOON JUST SOON!!!!!

Remember the heartache when seeing Butch arrive at Mcghee Tyson? Watching Hart drive away to the uni with him in the passenger seat was hard slap from reality

This pic...mediocrity in motion.
