Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIX

Actually, the program is standing in a hallway between two doors.

On the left is a door that leads to another year of Butch or other substandard coach. It is the door that leads back to the basement.

On the right is a door that leads to Gruden or other home run hire. It is the door to success.

John Currie holds the keys. So, what will it be?

See my next post on the matter. I can't be anti-Jones even though the urge strikes me. I take the long view on such things and try to be objective over the whole five years.

So... which one of these posts do we chose to believe... your introduction into the thread where you make a solid statement like "YOU KNOW" or the one where you say "Your mind in NOT made up"

It can't be both.... how long have you had these issues of being indecisive?

Coastypop,
Good Luck here on VolNation & in life.
Sincerely,
Brian

I do think some posters are setting themselves up for disappointment. If it’s not Gruden it doesn’t mean TN didn’t go all in or the boosters tried their best etc. So, my advice, be willing to accept that and support the next coach especially if it’s a solid quality hire. Hopefully it is Gruden!!
I gotta be honest. If it's not an A-list coach this time, I may be done. I don't have any real recourse. I won't spend any more money but they can probably fill the void for one fan who averages a game a year when times are bad and two or three a year when times are good. I've been at this 40 years + and I really don't want to spend the remainder of my time being irate about supporting a has been program with greedy, inept leadership that isn't committed to putting forward the resources it takes to compete with the bog dogs in the SEC these days. I need to see somebody up there do something right.

I've turned down jobs that I didn't want even though they paid more than I currently make.

I'm quite comfortable and honestly don't need to make any more money, especially if it came with the expense of a bunch of pressure and an unstable fan-base who does things like #BringBackBruce, #FireButchJones & #EmptyNeyland.

so yeah. endorsements and other "unregulated monies" can make up the difference -- don't confuse salary with how much you make. If he's truly into wealth management, he will be making 11M+ no matter where he works.

but, your mileage may vary.

Cool story. :boredom:

I think he did.

Sort of like 1998 after the 'Cuse game. I'm sure the logical argument was that we had a snowball's chance in hell of going undefeated.

That is where I am with is hire, I'm in a 1998 state of mind and enjoying the hunt.

I'm with you .... No more small potatoes.... Go BIG or go home....

Well past time we start acting like TENNESSEE again!

If we are to believe the rumors, yes. He's already been told he's out.

As I stated way early in the newest Grudenmania, I respect Dooley for running a clean program given the way the NCAA and SEC were giving us the hairy eyeball after Kiffin. I respect Jones for plugging a leak in in-State recruiting and pushing us to the higher level talent wise.

Both played important roles in starting to bring UT football back. But neither are/were the ones to take it to the highest level.

The next step? Let's see if the AD can also up it's game and bring in the coach to get us into that next logical step in the process.

^This 100%

Can't blame the kid. The picture to him right now is get competent coaching at Bama, UGA, ND, or Clemson, or incompetent coaching at UT. That is the only information he has. But I will say that once he makes a decision to go somewhere else it would be very difficult to change his mind. These are business decisions for these kids and can make a difference in becoming a millionaire in the future or working at Joe Neubert's Collision Center.

So you're saying in the eyes of a kid that's bled orange his entire life that going to UGA with Kirby Smart and Sam Pittman would still be a bigger draw than Jon Gruden with all of his NFL contacts and experience and whoever he pulls for OC and O-Line coach and he wouldn't flip back? Not buying it.

I think we have the mid day meltdown because most of the people posting with sheer emotion are snowflake millennals who expect everything to be given to them when they want it because their entitled to it. Then, the older generations who’ve built successful businesses or retired from successful careers have to come in and explain that contrary to what you FEEL, sometimes you have to work for things, exude patience from time to time and roll with the cards you’re delt. It’s a freakin’ midday millennial meltdown. Go watch a documentary on WWII or something. Learn to deal with life.

^This!^ I try to skimm or read every post because I never know when I might miss a nugget if I don't. I guess I'm a bit compulsive, huh?

I'll want to comment on something but I'm 23 pages behind (50 ppp) so I don't. I know when I get to what I posted, it will be totally out of context, or the question will already have already been posted and answered, or 4 other people will have already posted the same information!

I've become a lurker instead of a participant but I'm here y'all!

SOON!

Describes me to the t.

Well guys Brian done gone and broke my heart so I got to leave you from a while.... I hope you all don't burn this place down while I'm away

I really don't have an opinion on him. As an announcer, i HATE him, but as a coach, i don't know. I know that kids like him, they like his QB Camp and it seems he could win the press conference.

So, i'm 50/50 on his ability to succeed. but from the Business perspective, i wouldn't quit my "no-pressure 6.5M a year job" to go back to "high-pressure 10M job". I just wouldn't do it. that's why I conclude, he's not coming here.

I won't burn mattresses if he comes and I won't burn mattresses if he doesn't.

I'm realistic

No you’re straddling, go ahead commit. You know you want to

When I see people complaining about milleninals, I always wonder why the baby boomers who raised them never think they contributed to how they turned out.

you realize we are in this position because a bunch of old timers refused to raise their kids (millennials) the same way? you realize we are in this position because a bunch of rich old people would rather keep getting filthy rich compared to helping out the future generations??? i agree there is no accountability for actions with millennials..but the old generation sure as hell seems to have the same problem just in their own ways. SOON
