Official Jon Gruden Thread XXIX

Off topic thought of the day, when we get back to winning and beating the teams like we historically should, can we unofficially start calling Neyland "The Pit of Misery"? Dilly Dilly?

So guys, who has made the most logical & succinct Gruden argument yet? Is it the Volundeer just above me or is there another post that I can reference without reading 315 pages....

So are you saying you made your decision before you had all the information?

Don't kick me out. I am still full Grude. But, I am starting to lose faith in Beaver. The childish tweets at Currie, the constant changing of the twitter profile pics, and the continual lurking on the thread are not raising my confidence level in his connections. Seems childish/trollish

I hope I am wrong.

Soon.

If Mays had been told Gruden or some other home run hire was on the hook he would have waited it out. The fact he left leads me to believe we are not where we think we are.

Grudometer at 5% and dropping.

I am right there with you. His Dad would know.

Butch sounds exactly like the ex who just got broken up with and has spent every day of the last 5 years with their significant other but they have had enough. You keep texting/calling them saying you swear you wont cheat/lie, get blackout, etc.... if you give them one more chance.

I'm not going to do the grumors and I'm not going with the "i have a source". I'm just asking if somebody has a few bullet points on realistically why you think Gruden will come here. My mind is made up that he's NOT, but I thought "let me be open minded for a second and see what the logical folks are saying".

I guess THAT was a bad idea.

agreed. i dunno that it means Gruden, but i agree with the premise.

you don't spend $340M for 7-5 football for the next 20 years.

Why do I get the weird feeling that this would be the most “Tennessee thing” to do?

Spend a ton to renovate the stadium and trot out the same on field product.

Obviously don’t want that to happen. Bring Gruden home.

Would you take Gruden and all new recruits are walk ons for 2017 class?

My eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the lord, He was marching up that hill wearing Tennessee orange,His name is Jon Gruden and he carries a great big sword.. His truth is marching on...again

My phone is always logged onto Volnation, but does not mean I am lurking, even though I actually am

I think he did.

Sort of like 1998 after the 'Cuse game. I'm sure the logical argument was that we had a snowball's chance in hell of going undefeated.

That is where I am with is hire, I'm in a 1998 state of mind and enjoying the hunt.

To UTvolinexile:

Let me state my position. I believe atlvol, dto, bro and beaver. Realistically too much going on for this to be a troll job and the first three names have been around and have been trustworthy. (Bubba is the most intriguing due to how long ago he signed up for an account)

However, I own a business and I’ve been told several times that “this contract is yours” etc etc and something happens or gets in the way. I’ve learned early on in life nothing is a done deal until the ink is dry. I’m not a sky is falling type of guy either. I merely wanted to post what I saw on my VQ account. Does that mean I’m worried? No. I didn’t like reading that so was looking to see if anyone in the know had heard anything. As I’ve learned in 2012 following this coaching search things change all the time. It doesn’t mean anyone is lying or is misleading but simply when politics are involved nothing is guaranteed.

I appreciate the recruiting insiders who bring information bc that’s what I follow when coaching searches aren’t underway. I want to buy season tickets again and enjoy winning like I did when I was growing up so I’m all in on Gruden. Unfortunately, if we do not get him I’ll still be a huge TN fan and hope we can get a big time coach even if it’s not the white whale.

I do think some posters are setting themselves up for disappointment. If it’s not Gruden it doesn’t mean TN didn’t go all in or the boosters tried their best etc. So, my advice, be willing to accept that and support the next coach especially if it’s a solid quality hire. Hopefully it is Gruden!!

Sorry if you felt I was calling you out, was just commenting that I hadn't seen Hubbs actual words yet. You were not one of the pearl-clutchers to whom I was referring. :)

There's plenty of room for skeptics, believers, and wait-and-see folks here. I was directing my comments at those who go through dramatic emotional shifts approximately every 8 hours based on the latest scrap of information.

Okay, that long post means nothing-- Hubbs just said that he's making calls for support, but it's questionable that he's gaining momentum.

The fact that he's calling donors begging is insulting to our program, if I were the AD I'd fire him for that alone.

I wouldn’t put any stock in it other than Mays seems to like the attention. If the AD really has Gruden in play, there’s no way they’d relay that info to melodramatic kids.

Can't blame the kid. The picture to him right now is get competent coaching at Bama, UGA, ND, or Clemson, or incompetent coaching at UT. That is the only information he has. But I will say that once he makes a decision to go somewhere else it would be very difficult to change his mind. These are business decisions for these kids and can make a difference in becoming a millionaire in the future or working at Joe Neubert's Collision Center.

I don't take it as a personal shot at all. However, this team this year can be summed up in one single word:

Uninspired

A head coach's job is to inspire his team to win against the odds. Or hell, to even score against the odds. This team, since I would say Georgia Tech, has not even shown a pulse on the field. And honestly? That comes back to coaching.

My problem (and guess) is Jones has wanted out, but his agent has said "guy, you effed yourself and I can't find anything at the moment." Hence why he would be clamoring for an additional year despite the injuries. my problem with that?

Which year hasn't been plagued by injuries to this team? And now recruiting is taking a nose dive with little coming from the coaches to stop it. That's a defeated mentality by the coaching staff. The only bright spots are the defense for the most part and the RB corps. Otherwise, the team just isn't fired up.

I think Jones took over a dumpster fire and made the most of what he had. I think he brought us out of the basement and this team is standing in the doorway of success. But he hasn't and won't open the door to let them crash the party. I give him all the credit in the world for what he did in the first four years. But he has given up.

Actually, the program is standing in a hallway between two doors.

On the left is a door that leads to another year of Butch or other substandard coach. It is the door that leads back to the basement.

On the right is a door that leads to Gruden or other home run hire. It is the door to success.

John Currie holds the keys. So, what will it be?

So... which one of these posts do we chose to believe... your introduction into the thread where you make a solid statement like "YOU KNOW" or the one where you say "Your mind in NOT made up"

It can't be both.... how long have you had these issues of being indecisive?
