I appreciate you are on record. I still remember feeling like an idiot in 2012. I am starting to feel like that again.

Well, I did not feel like an idiot, but I was bummed in 2012.

I figure there are worse things in life than being viewed as an idiot on an anonymous message board, especially when my idiotness is believing that there is strong possibility that we get it right this time.

Who gives a ratz azz if some random poster makes fun of me. I'm just a old man who has hope that we get it right.

My Grudeometer is still at 95% because I believe it just MAKES SENSE for Jon Gruden to be our next HC. Here is why:
  • Gruden himself has said he misses coaching
  • If he were only interested in NFL coaching why would he not publicly say so given all the Grumors swirling around?
  • If he were that interested in NFL coaching, I believe he would already be doing so
  • Gruden has ties to this University, as does his wife and son
  • There is no other P5 school that would give him more visibility than UT
  • He has raised sons himself, so I believe he will be comfortable with and good at mentoring his players
  • MNF is most likely going to be eliminated at some point. At the very least ESPN is not as profitable as it was.
  • At age 55 Gruden has to be thinking about his eventual retirement and where he would like to settle. Why not this area? A lot of people choose this area to retire to.
  • Jon Gruden is confident enough and tough enough to handle the stress and criticism and scrutiny that comes with this job. His children are also used to having a famous father, so not that much of a difference for them.
  • Gruden will be perceived as a hero by the majority of fans when he takes this job. Where else can he get that kind of welcome? Sure, other programs would love to have him, but he is returning to Tennessee so it's like he's coming back where he belongs.
  • He knows the fans will trust him and cut him more slack because we will believe he "GETS" us and has our best interests at heart.
Now, I don't "know" anyone and I'm a nobody, but just analyzing what we all DO KNOW it makes sense to me. I am still full of hope!:)

if the ad is keeping this as tight as it appears, they ain't telling a kid with a cell phone and internet, no matter how many stars are beside his name.

just my opinion.
That’s what I am thinking. If Cade tells someone it may spread like a wild fire. They are keeping quiet for a reason.

About a week age wasn't it Atlanta Vol that mentioned working (communicating) with Cade on some things?

Perhaps this de-commitment is just another piece of the puzzle to justify what is coming.

Can't help but believe that this is all orchestrated.

Why do you think Hubbs would put out a statement like that? (Butch calling around to boosters for support) that just looks ridiculous on the university. If this is misdirection it's beginning to appear just outlandish at this point.

I think it's outlandish that Butch would even want to be here another year.

Having a 17 year old kid with cell phone and internet myself, this is a wise choice.

Currie didn't let the cat out of the bag with the baseball hire. I think he'll try to control any leaks until the appropriate time to name the coach. Period.

Butch is calling donors...... it is insulting to the simplest of minds that this is supposedly real.

He didn't fire the OC for a reason, because it doesn't matter. He gone, ooooooh yeah, he gone.

I wouldn't begin to guess what hubbs' motivations are. Nor do I care.

Butch is a pot stirrer, but he's about to lick the spoon.

This wreaks of a scenario like this.... A circus trainer poking/abusing a caged lion, until it's time for the show.....

I generally use Occam's Razor. The more simple the more likely. I do not believe that recruits wouldn't be told something if the situation was very good regarding the next hire. From an interview just played on 99.1 the recruits are still talking with the current coaches, but not at all about any job issues.

To UTvolinexile:

Let me state my position. I believe atlvol, dto, bro and beaver. Realistically too much going on for this to be a troll job and the first three names have been around and have been trustworthy. (Bubba is the most intriguing due to how long ago he signed up for an account)

However, I own a business and I’ve been told several times that “this contract is yours” etc etc and something happens or gets in the way. I’ve learned early on in life nothing is a done deal until the ink is dry. I’m not a sky is falling type of guy either. I merely wanted to post what I saw on my VQ account. Does that mean I’m worried? No. I didn’t like reading that so was looking to see if anyone in the know had heard anything. As I’ve learned in 2012 following this coaching search things change all the time. It doesn’t mean anyone is lying or is misleading but simply when politics are involved nothing is guaranteed.

I appreciate the recruiting insiders who bring information bc that’s what I follow when coaching searches aren’t underway. I want to buy season tickets again and enjoy winning like I did when I was growing up so I’m all in on Gruden. Unfortunately, if we do not get him I’ll still be a huge TN fan and hope we can get a big time coach even if it’s not the white whale.

I do think some posters are setting themselves up for disappointment. If it’s not Gruden it doesn’t mean TN didn’t go all in or the boosters tried their best etc. So, my advice, be willing to accept that and support the next coach especially if it’s a solid quality hire. Hopefully it is Gruden!!

Already been fired? It's clear he can't come back next year, that's for sure.

Let's just hope that it's all worth it in the end.

If we are to believe the rumors, yes. He's already been told he's out.

As I stated way early in the newest Grudenmania, I respect Dooley for running a clean program given the way the NCAA and SEC were giving us the hairy eyeball after Kiffin. I respect Jones for plugging a leak in in-State recruiting and pushing us to the higher level talent wise.

Both played important roles in starting to bring UT football back. But neither are/were the ones to take it to the highest level.

The next step? Let's see if the AD can also up it's game and bring in the coach to get us into that next logical step in the process.
