If the AD is trying to keep things under wraps, they aren't going to tell high school kids. It would be on social media in 20 mins.
So Butch was notified after Georgia he wouldnt be retained. The administration reaches out to Jon Gruden to determine interest, and finds he is interested. The contract terms are finalized, one being to allow Butch to conclude the season as head coach. Having his man in agreement, the administration announces one of the largest fund raisers in history to improve Neyland. Currie knows once the announcement is out donations will flow in like a flooded river.
The fans get their wish for a big named coach, the donation base is united and pulling in the same direction. The academic side is already counting their piece of the donation pie, recruiting will rise to the top of the college football world, the band plays Rocky Top and Currie looks like a genius. Go Vols!
If Mays had been told Gruden or some other home run hire was on the hook he would have waited it out. The fact he left leads me to believe we are not where we think we are.

I agree they aren't going to use names but the fact remains that Case and more importantly his family have no faith that this administration is making things better.
And this is a guy that has some contacts within the athletic side and wants his son playing here.
That is just bad news.
Reading through 7 pages of pearl-clutching is getting on my nerves.
Legendary: you first brought the comment as to Hubbs saying Butch is trying to save his job. Not that I don't trust you man, but until I see a quote of Hubbs' actual words, I'm not giving that weight.
But even assuming I did, it doesn't really matter in my book. Boro and DTO are being quietly confident, and they surely have reason to be both quiet and confident.
If that's not good enough for you, I'll go ahead and say again: I am 99% certain Jon Gruden will be the head coach at Tennessee before 2017 is over. The 1% is in case of a Gruden heart attack or a meteor strike on Knoxville.
Gruden is coming.
"But Ainge says..."
Irrelevant.
"But Cade Mays decommitted..."
Irrelevant.
"But Hubbs says Butch is making calls..."
Irrelevant.
"But Butch is still coaching..."
IRRELEVANT.
All this other stuff is noise, some planned, some not, but all of it beside the point: Gruden is coming. Wrap your heads around it and relax. Enjoy thinking about the good times that are right around the bend. Or take your meds.
Take it for what you will. I'm on record.

I don't take it as a personal shot at all. However, this team this year can be summed up in one single word:
Uninspired
A head coach's job is to inspire his team to win against the odds. Or hell, to even score against the odds. This team, since I would say Georgia Tech, has not even shown a pulse on the field. And honestly? That comes back to coaching.
My problem (and guess) is Jones has wanted out, but his agent has said "guy, you effed yourself and I can't find anything at the moment." Hence why he would be clamoring for an additional year despite the injuries. my problem with that?
Which year hasn't been plagued by injuries to this team? And now recruiting is taking a nose dive with little coming from the coaches to stop it. That's a defeated mentality by the coaching staff. The only bright spots are the defense for the most part and the RB corps. Otherwise, the team just isn't fired up.
I think Jones took over a dumpster fire and made the most of what he had. I think he brought us out of the basement and this team is standing in the doorway of success. But he hasn't and won't open the door to let them crash the party. I give him all the credit in the world for what he did in the first four years. But he has given up.
I
WILL
NOT
i only want you to be realistic and to not get hurt when we bounce down to candidate number 9 or 10, a google hire coach from directional michigan or directional iowa --it's GOING to be ok. We won't burn mattresses and we won't coach-worship.
The next man will hopefully have a higher IQ than current guy and we can try again.
I just don't want you to be hurt.

Who are all these people in here carrying on like their hair is on fire?
Chill.
I dont think that. Currie is keeping everything hush. It may back fire but dont think so. Swain said he is still confident in big hire Gruden or not. Swain also said Cade ❤️ Tennessee and big hire will have a chance with Cade. So volnation please dont be so dramatic. If Mays had been told Gruden or some other home run hire was on the hook he would have waited it out. The fact he left leads me to believe we are not where we think we are.
