It really f+&%kn pisses me off when McElwain is defending his job after winning two East titles in a row,and yet we have heard noone put Butch on the spot, news conference nada...Couple that with losing recruits, worse losses we suffered in multiple years...I just don't get the point of keeping him No matter who you bring in.Hopefully the silence is A good thing but knowing this university i wouldnt bet on it.

So, one of my own small informational contributions to this conversation was input from the academic admin side (AA) that they had agreed on a number of concessions (from their perspective) to the football program. That was a major article, and it appeared to be cleared out of the way of the hire.

Within the last 24 hours we have seen some very specific rumors about Gruden's staff. Specifically, this morning we have a suggestion that he may have tapped Art Briles as OC.

I can think of nothing, literally nothing, that would be more likely to make the players in the AA lose their collective ish than allowing Art Briles to set foot on campus in an official capacity. It would be the kind of move that could easily throw a huge wrench into negotiations.

I'm not sure if the Briles rumor is true. I am interested that it has come out right at the time we expected to hear an announcement about Butch, but we haven't.

I've tried contacting my AA person, no response yet this morning. Not entirely unexpected with church going on. Will try again to find something out later.

IF the Briles rumor is true, then it's absolutely going to be a showdown between the $ and the AA. We will see who wins. I can tell you this though: if Gruden comes and Briles ends up being on staff, it will represent a huge power shift between football and academics, akin to the Romans burning Carthage and sowing the fields with salt.

Grude on!

Don't you mean the son? Not Art?

We give Jimmy a lot of grief - and deservedly so - but so far he has been right about this coaching situation. Would not be surprised at this at all.
Believe it ..Do not like it.. but believe it..So Butch will go out and hit the pace car on Sat..Grrrrrrrrreeeeeaaatt

Always been my understanding that among coaches, few will ever talk about accepting a job while another coach holds the position. Especially if they know that coach..
Gruden is Butch's friend..... just saying

Whered the Briles thing come from?

Why would the Grude touch that with a 40 foot pole?

I’m curious to this too. What connection would Gruden have to Briles. If this was all going down and Gruden was filling coaching why would Briles be who he chooses as OC.

He would have to have a strong relationship to make that his ultimatum on whether he signed a HC contract.

Have Briles and Gruden worked together before, not aware any relationship exists.

Honestly, a lot of the heartburn is caused by folks just wanting Butch gone NOWNOWNOW. If, for example, Currie intended to pull the trigger at 6pm today, people are going to be screaming at 5:59 that Currie has betrayed us all because Butch is still coach.

I know everyone hates waiting, but John Currie doesnt have the power to alter the flow of linear time.

Or DOES he? :)

Every other program that still fancies themselves as a contender would have ciut bait by now. It's not that we want instant gratification. It's that we want the administration to give some sign that they still give a s**t.

Whiskey tango foxtrot is Currie waiting on? Timing? Give me a break! The plug should've been pulled long ago, but here we sit with an empty tub. Admittedly, I had the AL game circled and we're still riding this out....

My sanity can't take much more, neither can the health of my marriage lol.

It has nothing to do with impatience. It has everything to do with COMMON SENSE.

I do find it interesting that media ...outside of Facebook or twitter is starting to run the story of Gruden already being offered 10 mil a year. Ajc ran story in Atlanta.

What I don't think will happen is the athletic department announcing today that there's a out of the blue press conference tomorrow. That's why Hyams reporting there are no scheduled press conferences today or tomorrow is a non-issue to me. I think when they move on Butch its gonna be quick with a press conference announcement a few hours before it happens.

And because it is common sense that he should be fired by now, and based on his own behavior seems to know he is fired, doesn't it make reasonable sense that there is more going on then normal stuff?

You are a liar, and a fraud, go on, GIT!
remind me who you are again....someone like most of us with simply a position based on facts/opinions given the last 2 weeks in here ?

DocVol is by no means on a pedestal as far as I am concerned but I can assure you he is on my and many others short list who brings solid info !

I'll not be using GTFO today so GIT is the best you get !

Also, did you see the post game conference last night. The reporters were drilling MCElwain on his coaching future.

You mean to tell me there isn’t one local overly eager noob reporter in Knoxville trying to get to the bottom of this. We never get it, never is Jones asked a tough question. Not everyone can be bought off.

And ask for a statement from Currie already...someone, anyone has to have goals of going on to a better reporting gig somewhere.

This entire week is gonna say a whole lot about the direction we are going. If we are sitting here next Monday and have no response from the AD the fan base will shrink to oblivion. If he coaches next week it makes no good sense to me at the moment, you could put a interim in and the situation would be much better no matter what. Bring him in back into Neyland on homecoming is a slap in the face to every UT fan at this point. And that is nothing personal against Jones, but anybody with eyes and that has a lick of sense can see it is time for him to go. If they are worried about the players going out in style and making a bowl they will stop this insanity. If Butch cares about his brand he will too, and if they screw things up over trying to save his buyout money they will lose MUCH MORE. And I am only speaking in hypotheticals at the moment. MAKE IT SOON NOW!!!!

There's 2 explanations:
- Currie has a grand plan he's waiting to spring into action; or
- the administration is floundering and has no idea what to do.

I'm sorry, but I think it's the latter.

I don't understand why Gruden is the big fish everyone wants. What makes anyone think he would be a homerun hire??? What would his recruiting be like??? Is he an offense guy or a defensive guy??? How highly would he be thought of by recruits??? I think personally he would be a huge risk just like an up and coming coach. I may be wrong. But I would much rather have someone that has been a college coach.

Need more question marks.

He said unequivocally that Butch was within 48 hours win or lose. Now he is back pedaling and making excuses. Yall don't want to see it for what it is, but I'll call it like I see it.
