It's a Friday night. I've drawn the shades, taken my phone off the hook, and I'm gonna straight freebase Grumors until I can't feel my face anymore.

Thing is that never did I say he was a bad coach and never did I say he couldn't succeed as a college coach. My point was that he is far from a guaranteed success like some are portraying him to be and that there are guys out there that Tennessee can get who are guaranteed to succeed.

no one is guaranteed to succeed.

I was super shocked and then more shocked when they started winning.

In my opinion, they've had pretty much 1 impressive win with McElwain at the helm--their beatdown of Ole Miss in his first year with Grier playing.

There have been so many times where they've won games simply because the other team was worse. It's really a statement about how bad the SECE has been. McElwain will get throttled by actual good coaches.

I wouldn't consider stating his career win % and college coaching experience to be weak or closed minded. Those are facts which last I checked are something of substance. I presented those facts and just asked what the big obsession with Gruden is. You're the one telling me to gtfo because you disagree with me which actually which actually makes you the closed minded one.

You took the first few lines of a Google search and ran with it. Came into the Gruden thread and slapped down .02 cents worth of info and wanted a dollars worth of proof.

News flash, I don't care if you think it's close minded to be told to gtfo.

I don't have time to hold another adults hand and lead them down the yellow brick road.

If truly gave a crap about the football program you would educate yourself about the best coaching.options out there.

Want some validation? I think Patterson is an excellent coach. So is David Shaw, so is Chip Kelley, and Scott Frost is another to keep an eye on. So is Dantonio at Mich. St. Peterson is an excellent coach.

How many of those would be realistic?

How many of those coaches have you read educated yourself on? If I was betting in it, judging from your weak Gruden argument, I would say not much.

Again, go spend a couple hours reading, it will do you some good.

Butch's fate, according to my source, depends on record and what happens in games. Basically a fluid situation. We go to Kentucky tomorrow and lose 45-0...Butch most likely is gone.
I'll play even tho he's gone regardless BUT if your "source" is saying "most likely is gone" after losing that much to Kentucky....you really need to get another source, seriously !

I can see why a lot of people are weary of Gruden being a college coach. Obviously there is not much evidence that he would succeed in college. However, what makes me a believer is the fact that I know Gruden understands the game of football. He knows the Xs and Os of the game and has a higher football IQ than about anybody else in football. He may have to learn the recruiting aspect of the college game, but I believe recruits would jump at the opportunity to play for him. After a season or two, Gruden would be well caught up on college recruiting and his name alone would help us get great classes in his early years. Plus, unlike Butch, he would surround himself with quality coaches that would develop talent and help him succeed. I know with Gruden our football program would be in good hands and he would come here expecting to win championships. Real championships.

Many more people would love to have Gruden as a coach, in fact it is overwhelming majority. Most of the ones that don't think people like Mullen, Norvell types or even Jones is better. That type of thinking has been inbreaded in them through the lean years. Anyone that would turn away from giving Gruden a chance at UT is pure lunacy. And yes there are no guarantees with him or anyone, but please if we are going down in flames give me Gruden over any other coach out there. Trot out mediocre and I will watch from the house until I see wins against the top SEC teams. 8-4 should be the floor standard at UT not the ceiling. SOON!!!!! GET IT DONE!!!!!
