Mullen would be a great hire.

Me too, but I ain't gonna "or Bust" on either until I fully unnerstandz. Haha.

Not sure I ever went "or bust" on him, though I would be REALLY happy if he were hired--even among the Grumors. I do remember asking someone if they truly didn't know what "or bust" meant, and linking a definition.

Was that you?

After weeks in this thread dreaming of the great Grude himself on our sideline, anyone else would be a huge letdown. I was here in 2012 and when butch trotted out, it took months to stomach the hire. This time, I think we need Grude even more. Mullen, while not a bad coach by any means, is not Grude.

It's like when my kids get all excited about halloween, and then a neighbor hands out a healthy alternative or a pencil. They want the good stuff!

I feel like if Ergen is the one heading this thing we are in good hands. He would be the one booster I believe could strong arm the Haslems and force this thing through. Knowing that his level of income due to DISH is much greater than Pilot Flying J. I could be wrong but isn't he worth like 14 Billion? If I was him I would just tell Jimmy and Jim to sit in the corner and watch how **** gets done. That said, I'm not jumping on board the way I did in 2012, will remain in the see it to believe it boat until that administration shows they actually want to win something.

Haha yea, it was a joke that turned sideways. Kinda like this one. :)

He is too good at his job. Screwed us and our weak AD's multiple times. Sexton is a slimeball.

I don't disagree but his responsibility lies with his client, not the UTAD. We've gone his way for a while - Phil Fulmer, Lane Kiffin, Derek Dooley and Butch Jones are all Jimmy Sexton clients. Hamilton was close friends with Sexton as well so it's easy to lay blame at Sexton's feet.

Also - Nick Saban, Dan Mullen, Will Muschamp, Hugh Freeze, Jimbo Fisher, Gus Malzhan, Jim McIlwain, and Kirby Smart have all worked out reasonably well and no one is blaming Jummy Sexton.

For this kind of money his name should never enter the conversation.

That hire wouldn’t excite the fan base at all. Someone posted that he’s making 5-6 million? IN STARKVILLE?? With no pressure and little expectations... He’s only a dozen or so wins behind Sherrill(sp) for all time winningest coach there??? Why leave when your almost a legend?

His recruiting classes has an average rating of 26 over the past 5 years, with a 32-20 record over that time. I don't think people understand how hard it is to recruit to Starkville. It is DESOLATE, absolutely nothing around it either. Has to be one of the worst towns to live in in the power 5 conference. Look at how he has that program running compared to where they were under other coaches. He's also developed and sends guys to the NFL regularly.

Again. I hope there are names above him. But I also think he would be a good hire.

Back to Gruden
this exactly right. He would win here and would have top 10 classes instead of top 30. Its a no brainier if you ask me

It goes beyond Haslam. A substantial majority of big boosters are all pointing in the same direction.

I've got tons of fellow coworkers, one of them a Tennessee fan, and two of them Alabama fans, giving me all sorts of sh** about me saying Jon Gruden is going to be our next coach. I can't wait for him to be announced to i can tell them all to...

Mullen is a better coach than Butch, I can admit that.

But if the goal is sustained success and competing for championships then he isn't the answer.

He is an ok recruiter, not elite. Recruiting and developing players is what separates the good coaches from the great coaches. I feel he would never be able to recruit at the level needed to comoete with Saban, Meyer, Dabo, etc..

I'd be as dissapointed if we somehow hired Mullen as when we hired Butch...and it has nothing to do with Gruden.

He is worth nearly 18 billion. Could not imagine that kind of wealth.
