Angler, I just can't even engage you on this. All I can say is if you truly think a coach who won a Super Bowl isn't proven enough for COLLEGE, you really need to find another thread.

I am just saying that he is not a sure thing. A lot of time has passed since his days of coaching and the NFL and college are two very different animals.

So if some miracle happens and gruden comes to UT will brick by brick have a new meaning? As in us $h!ting bricks?

Any coach not named Saban is a unknown...but could anyone really doubt Gruden’s ability to build a staff that would coach kids up?

Good morning all, spent the last hour catching up on the overnight posts. I wouldn't be surprised if today is a quiet day. I noticed a propensity to argue during the night when info is slow. We're all on the same team, soon! Have a Grudeacous day all!!!

Some people think they are original when they come in asking stupid questions. Happens everyday.

Several things have convinced me that something is going on just by observation.

First, the deafening silence from the AD’s office. Second, other than Manning’s comments a few weeks back, no vocalized support from former players. Third, Fulmer’s comments during the game last Saturday were very curious in that he offered no support for Butch, only hoping for a Vols win. Last, it seemed really odd that Gruden would attend the game Saturday casually, albeit with his son, rather than obscure himself knowing full well his presence would raise suspicion.

I could be completely off. But there seems to be a lot of smoke.

I like Gruden as much as the next guy but the reality is that he is also a gamble. He has been retired for a decade, never coached a college team nor had to recruit at this level. His NFL career was marginal at best, a little over .500 for his 11 yrs as head coach. Now I got that he is a Super Bowl coach but for argument sakes, Fulmer is a (1) National Championship, (2) SEC Champs, (5) SEC East Champs, and a College Football Hall of Famer. Not saying I want Fulmer back but as for coaching record, he blows Gruden out of the water and nobody wants Fulmer around our program. My point is, Fulmer is proven and people say he couldn’t bring us back to the glory days however, Gruden with much less success is a “homerun” hire. This is ridiculous, there are better names out there that are proven at the collegiate level.

Oh look. More talking points. Its like watching a CBJ presser every 10 posts.

Go back and read.

The whole “he won a Super Bowl with another coaches players” thing has been way overplayed imo

Football teams change every year through draft, free agency, trades, etc. No coach is playing with "his players" unless they are the entire front office. They have input, but generally not full control.

Nothing is ever guaranteed. Nothing.

There are just some things that have a higher probability of success than others and I can't imagine Gruden not succeeding here.

Why is it the Fleetwood Mac song "Tusk" comes into my head whenever I see Boro and DTO post and tease?

Performed by the Pride of the Southland Band instead of that other school of course.

Why don't you ask him if he's going to stay?
Why don't you ask him if he's going away?
Why don't you tell me what's going on?
Why don't you tell me who's on the phone?
Why don't you ask him what's going wrong?
Why don't you ask him who's the latest on his throne?

Jimmy Hyams on 104.5 in Nashville talking like Butch may be back next season and throwing out $15 million buyout scare tactic. How the hell does this guy still have a job in sports journalism?
