Just a fan here but I think one of his biggest problems has been in hiring assistants and possibly micromanaging. Had several chances to upgrade the offensive staff but apparently hired his buds instead of getting qualified assistants. That and continually trying to run a pro style quarterback in a dual threat offense. I've just never figured that one out.
I do appreciate what Butch did to get the program back on its feet though. I don't hate him, but his time has come to an end.
I wanted Gruden 5 years ago, hell, I wanted him 8 years ago. I was not around for the OG threads, but if indeed UT backed away from him 5 years ago I am pissed. How good would Year 5 of Gruden look right now.
My sentiments as well Steve :good!::good!:
Seconded.
I can look back and see there are some positive qualities from both Dooley and Jones. Dooley, for all his worthless on field performances, ran a fairly clean program. Provided nobody of note came to UT during his time lol, but we never worried about the NCAA snooping around.
Lyle brought us out of the basement Dooley had us trapped in, recruited lights out for the most part, and brought in good talent worthy of the Tennessee brand. Developing said talent is another matter entirely, but the talent is there. And helped fix the academic side of things. But is stuck in that 7-9 win zone at the moment.
But now it's time to take the next logical step in that process to developing talent into annual competitors. Is Gruden and whatever staff he would bring those guys? I'd tend to think he has an in depth knowledge of what the NFL is looking for as well as an offensive playbook that's pretty thick.
We'll see.
Butch's talent stock is waning. The way he squandered the legacies is criminal.Seconded.

Didn't about 8 of Dooleys players commit sexual assault?
Seconded.

I had 3 bits of info flow my way, Grumor #1 is solid. #2 should be taken with a grain of Salt. #3 should be pretty easy to verify this afternoon. Due to contractual obligations I'm only permitted to post Grumor on twitter, but they should be incredibly easy to find using #Grumor
