I was just as excited as anyone when Kiffin was here but he burnt some major bridges here and will never be back.

I doubt he could bring the same level of staff as he had here before because he is toxic now.

Let's keep this thread positive by keeping Kiffin's name off it. This has been my "happy" thread for the last several days, look forward to visiting it several times a day. Go Vols, can't wait to see Gruden run on to the field for the first time with our team!!:)

So you are saying there's a chance.

It sounds to me like JAV is saying Gruden is being actively pursued as our next head coach. It sounds to me like we are in the stage where all details are being handled through back channels, so that if formal negotiations open, it's just a matter of putting pen to paper. It sounds to me like our first choice has been identified and is being pursued with intent to hire.

Here's one from 2012. I wasn't very good at making these then and since then I've forgotten what little I knew.

Curie, and this University would look really bad if the word got out that he was looking for a new coach when the current one is still employed. He has to keep quiet about this to keep that professionalism in tact. To me, this is the right way to go about a pre-fire search.

It is a Grudetastic morning here in West TN.

Big ole Grude smile on my face after the wife assisted me in shooting off a grude last night.

Grude day to you all.....

I liked Kiffin. Wish he had stayed. I don't have battered wife syndrome, I don't blame him one bit for leaving for his dream job. But he failed at his dream job and was fired, in embarrassing fashion.

A big reason we are being laughed at by pretty much everyone, is because of dumb stuff Butch says. Obviously there is more to it, but that is a large part of it.

No guarantee that anyone "gets it done", but can you imagine what it would be like if Kiffin didn't?

I don't think he could pull it off. But that's just my opinion.

It would definitely be a big gamble and I agree if he failed we would take the term laughingstock to new levels. That's why I don't realistically ever see it happening.

I think the idea of Kiffin is actually better than Kiffin himself, and that's probably a testament to how much of a smooth talker the guy is.

As others have said, the guy did get me excited about UT football, like I hadn't been since the first part of the Fulmer era or since after Kiffin left.

I'd take Kiffin back....as Grude's OC.

I was just about to ask people's opinion on this.
I don't think that would happen either because it would be Gruden's offense to run.
On the other hand, Kiffin might jump at the offer if it were made.
Imagine having Saban AND Gruden on your resume.

I dont see that happening, but I would be fine to have him as an OC, whoever the HC was. Would love to see his results with JG.

I understand how you see it that way but I always liked Kiffin and never really held his leaving against him. I firmly lay that blame on Hamilton for supposedly having the knowledge that if the opportunity came Kiffin would bolt for USC. Hamilton should have had the wheels in motion the moment things started heading south for the Trojans. Instead he gave us Dooley because he didn't do a thing until the hammer fell.

I understand the animosity towards Lane but I also understand it's about winning and people would definitely warm up to him if and when he beat bama. Hell, he almost did it with that horrible roster we had the year he was here.

Just not a fan. And honestly, he hasn't been at FAU long enough to see if he's changed his ways. He kept his nose clean at Bama, but how much of that was due to Saban keeping his thumb on him?

Give it a couple of years and reevaluate. But at current? No.

There has been too much bad blood with Kiffin. I think he's a good coach, but he even made Coach Matthews mad with the way he flirted with the NCAA rules.
