So you are saying there's a chance.
Curie, and this University would look really bad if the word got out that he was looking for a new coach when the current one is still employed. He has to keep quiet about this to keep that professionalism in tact. To me, this is the right way to go about a pre-fire search.
I liked Kiffin. Wish he had stayed. I don't have battered wife syndrome, I don't blame him one bit for leaving for his dream job. But he failed at his dream job and was fired, in embarrassing fashion.
A big reason we are being laughed at by pretty much everyone, is because of dumb stuff Butch says. Obviously there is more to it, but that is a large part of it.
No guarantee that anyone "gets it done", but can you imagine what it would be like if Kiffin didn't?
I don't think he could pull it off. But that's just my opinion.

I was just about to ask people's opinion on this.
I don't think that would happen either because it would be Gruden's offense to run.
On the other hand, Kiffin might jump at the offer if it were made.
Imagine having Saban AND Gruden on your resume.
I understand how you see it that way but I always liked Kiffin and never really held his leaving against him. I firmly lay that blame on Hamilton for supposedly having the knowledge that if the opportunity came Kiffin would bolt for USC. Hamilton should have had the wheels in motion the moment things started heading south for the Trojans. Instead he gave us Dooley because he didn't do a thing until the hammer fell.
I understand the animosity towards Lane but I also understand it's about winning and people would definitely warm up to him if and when he beat bama. Hell, he almost did it with that horrible roster we had the year he was here.
