I know most on here realize Gruden being hired is a joke and would never happen, but had a friend tell me JG was coming, I asked his source. He said a guy on VN, guess I shouldn't have laughed at him.

Names that are realistic and of interest that have been said or heard by boosters I know.

Petrino-I know, but he would win. Boosters either love him or hate him, most hate him
Jim Bob Cooter-apart from the name, he checks all the boxes. Some just don't like the name, which is silly. Would be a great hire
Jeff Brohm-doing well, will be wanted by most vacant schools
Scott Frost-headed to Nebraska
Jeremy Pruitt-heck of a coach, still too immature to be a HC at a big program, think Kiffin

His son lives in sterchi lofts on gay street. Is that as good as a plane tracker?

Take this for what it's worth. We hadn't started the season so our team and coach hadn't had these embarrassments yet. However he did tell me his dad would never coach college football. He did say his dad would coach again as he misses the competition. Now like I say in summer most wouldn't have imagined Butch could have put himself in this situation at that time so replacing him realistically. So who knows and I hope the young man is wrong but based off our conversation he seemed like it's been a family conversation before and not just speaking on a whim. I'm still hoping for Chucky regardless though. Never give up hope. Lol

I'm officially deflated

As for what one should desire from a coach, look at any successful coach. You want that plateau. They climb and then plateau for x number of years. There are only slight dips during the plateau years. Some have much longer plateaus than others. Neyland had multiple 6-10 year plateaus that would likely have never dipped if he hadn't been called to serve twice. Fulmer was a much shorter plateau. Basically 1995-2001 with a dip in 2000. He had a secondary peak in 2003-2007 but never fully got back to his late 1990s heights. Johnny Majors plateaued from 1985-1991, also a short window with a couple of dips.

Outside of Tennessee, Bobby Bowden had a most impressive plateau. Saban has one now. Joe Paterno had a very long one. Bryant had a very long one. The greatest of the great can go on 10+ year runs at peak.

Most guys never have a high plateau at all in their career. The key is finding them. Tennessee managed to find at least 6 who peaked very high with varying lengths of maintaining that peak but our last 3 coaches have had a low ceiling. Butch seems to peak around 9-4 and 20th or so in the nation and looks like he could be sliding off that quickly.

This list doesn't make me overly excited. Petrino would win, but I don't see that happening. i see the AD looking for a long term coach and he's too unreliable.
Cooter would make me somewhat excited, but he's unproven.
Brohm looks good, but how would he do as a head coach in the SEC. Another unproven.
Frost is not going to happen.
Pruitt just no.

Who do you want? Who would make you excited again?

I actually don't see why everyone thinks Brohm is so good. He doesn't really have a lot to go on. He's about as far from a proven HC as we could go after other than those that have zero HC experience.

Patterson, Peterson, Kelly, and Gruden of course

After that comes the unprovens and weird personalities Venables, Leach, Cooter. I have my reservations about unprovens. The AD cannot mess this one up. The program is in a downward spiral and getting worse. UT is not viewed as a top program by a most outside of the Vols faithful anymore. We can't afford another failed "up and comer."

I realize most on the top list are probably not an option. Which sucks.

That list is pretty bad, and shouldn't have required a meeting by Manning, Currie, and all the boosters to put together and remove obstacles for.

Petrino has flashes nut his defenses stink.
JBC is slated for the NFL and no one even knows if he has interest in coaching at the college level.

Frost or Brohm are the 2 best options on that list but no one knows what their ceiling would be in a P5 conference.

So in other words we are bargain shopping again.

I'm not trying to be a jerk but it sounds like your sources read VN.

I'll pass on that list and see how this plays out. Too many sources saying different things.

Gruden and Kelley should be phone calls 1 and 2. After that you make Patterson, Peterson, Shaw and Dantonio say no.

Then you go bargain shopping if you can't swing any of those.

But if that's the list you start with then we might as well have Hart and Hamilton back.

So have about 20 others in here, care to elaborate????

They are either trolling, looking for 'likes', or seeing who is gullible enough to believe it.

Gruden makes 6.5 mil for working 17 dates a year plus more money for his Gruden QB gig. He also gets paid to run/evaluate film on his own. He's not giving up the easiest job in America where he has all the free time in the world to chase the whims of 17 year olds in recruiting or 80-90 hour work weeks.

On top of that, contrary to belief, Jones is not done yet. Boosters have not agreed to help buy out his contract. So, you think if they aren't willing to pony up to get rid of a coach, that they are willing to give up more money (after paying Jones), for a huge name that would have to be the highest in CFB to even think about it? They are whining about Jones' buyout, not happening.

Lastly, and most important, the biggest boosters aren't going to give away any power they may have and a name like Gruden would want full control. Not happening,

He had so many oppurtunites to coach in the NFL these past few years and had turned everyone of them down.......I'm not to sure about this statement

If any of this is true, we might as well get ready for another decade of suck.

Those that have twitter need to tweet to Finebaum to bring on gruden and see if it shows at the bottom of the screen.

yea ok and where did you hear this from.....your "one source" compared to countless disagree with this statement. Butch will not be here next. Hearing this honestly infuriates the majority of the fan base, no plausible way he is back.

I realize most on the top list are probably not an option. Which sucks.

Patterson-not happening, his FIL helps run TCU
Peterson-not leaving, involves family (son)
Kelly-would he take a discount? He's still being paid by 3 teams (I'm serious), maybe he would???
Gruden-I've covered that

That said, what about Mike Bobo? Ga fans would hate it, he can coach and can recruit with anyone. Pruitt told me himself Bobo is a top 5 coach. Pruitt would be a homerun in coaching and recruiting, he would have to cover his tracks...ahem.

This is my thinking, I think Manning draws from the NFL and it will be a NFL guy. Worked for Michigan. Also why I think Cooter gets a LONG look.

Interesting that a Georgia fan has such intimate knowledge of the inner workings of the UTAD and program boosters.. Yes, very interesting..
