To use the argument that he won with Dungy’s team, would you not have to account for the fact that he was also playing his previous team. Splitting hairs.

Not really. My point is that Gruden wasn't involved in building the team he won the SB with, and the disadvantage of playing his previous team (e.g., they know his tendencies) is counterbalanced by the fact that he also knew the personnel of his previous team and certain tendencies they had. Cancels itself out.

Gruden had a nice little 3-year stretch, but other than that he was totally average, kind of like Jeff Fisher. The guy still has the reputation that he does today because of his work on MNF.

Did they use colorful metaphors when referring to your lineage?

"In a meeting. If this is about football, I'll call you when I know something. If this is about the ##### #### I'll be available in about 20 minutes."

Then I got another text 2 seconds later.

"Dick!!"

The meltdown on this board is going to be incredible when we hire someone like D.J. Durkin or Larry Fedora.

Wow. Ahh 16.
My kids are all about Bon. They love all the songs from both but we have the Family Jewels video and watching Bon on the stage, just makes them over-energetic lol

Bon was the shet, but I like Brian too. Worthy replacement.

By the way, good to see you. Hope you're feeling well.

I feel obligated to say, have a Gruden. They get angry if you don't mention his name or say SOON!

If we did by chance get The Grude, how much would it cost for him and his assistants.

Give him a dollar per year and a cut of the home game ticket sales. If he doesn't work out, we can starve him out.

How much is he making on MNF? It'd have to be at least double that for him to even consider. He has the greatest job in the world.

It's a good thing you have such friends. I'd hate to see what your enemies say about you.

Anyone else feel compelled to repeatedly check this thread even if we know full well there is no news?

This is a true addiction

No it doesn't. College football might be a lower level but that does not mean it is easier to be a great college coach than a great pro coach. To be a great college coach, you have to be a good tactician but also a good recruiter. I don't know how much recruiting Gruden did during his college career, but his last college gig was back in 1991 as Pitt's WR coach. I know he's a great personality and that would probably serve him well on the recruiting trail, but I'd rather have a guy who has demonstrated an ability to do it in the past.

Also, the only reason you can say above average NFL coach is because he won that Super Bowl with Dungy's team. If you remove his last 2 years in Oakland and the first year in Tampa, his NFL coaching career is the definition of mediocrity. He was a completely average head coach for the rest of the 8 years he was in the league, and only went 57-55 in Tampa overall.

IF you remove 3 years of his career lol, 3 years is significant.. if's and but's. You can't remove them, They happened.
