I see no good point in keeping Jones at this point, recruits aren't coming based on him anymore. Just go with a interim if you don't have a head coach in place. He is a lame duck and everyone knows it. GBO!!!! VFL!!!!

I read somewhere, could be here, could be another forum.. Don't worry about the recruits.

IF we think that Peyton, Fulmer, Johnny and Currie all have big egos and they remember that UT has a big cock and should be swinging it around THEN we are going to get the coach and the name we need... That alone will reverse the recruiting decommit tide.

Grude morning, Grudenites! Here's where I think we are right now.

Original firing timeline was for after Bama. I still think it's the most likely timeline for hearing official word on a new coach, but last night some things changed the calculus a bit. Namely, Butch realizing that every game he coaches for UT hurts his employability. This has led to discussions on negotiating down the amount of his buyout. To be clear, this would not be walking away from the buyout. This could result in an earlier separation date than Bama game.

There was a meet with Gruden yesterday. No clue on numbers. Gruden did NOT give an immediate answer. There are still details to be hammered out there, but I think they can be.

So you've basically got two main sets of negotiations going on, with due diligence still being worked on other candidates. John Currie is earning his paycheck. With so many moving parts on this, I still think an announcement comes after Bama rather than before.

For nervous Nellie's, as I said last night, don't fret about ticket sales or recruiting setbacks. The right hire fixes both of those problems almost instantaneously. Stay cool, don't give yourself a heart attack waiting for an announcement, and keep hope alive!

I'm curious --are they not concerned about early signing?

If they would announce in early November, I would think we could recover a lot of AWOL recruits.
