Official Jon Gruden Thread XVII

So twitter, VN, and every rumor rolled up.

Butch and Currie have agreed to a reduce buyout if Currie let's Butch go before the AL game. Helps Butch's career by not completely killing off an opportunity to coach again.

Gruden and Currie met today and an offer is coming.

Patterson doesn't seem interested.

Scott is gone, Hoke is interim, Gillespie is OC

Am I missing anything....oh ya, and Vol Navy was dispatched to help evacuees from Knoxville due to the dumpster fire that turned into a wildfire.

Pretty much sums it up

Kind of weird that he's wearing a black shirt, no branding of any kind. Also no mention on tv during the game he was there. Butch is out tomorrow or Monday morning, Gruden leaves Nashville Monday night for Knoxville to address his new team. Let's ride!

He hasn't been afraid to sport UT gear in the past, so it is odd he went black FFCA gear at the game today.

What is a realistic offer to get the Grude away from the dumpster fire at ESPN? 8 mil/year? A couple Hooters thrown in? Get the resident contractors to build him a mansion?

Any numbers you will see are absolute WAG. Most people think Gruden currently makes in the $6mill+ range at ESPN. My own personal WAG would add a million to that as an absolute lowest possible offer. If I was writing the check myself, I would start at $8 mill, with loads of performance based incentives. And I would raise my offer until he told me yes.

Why do you think Patterson would be a tougher pull?

I think it could be a tough pull due to being a Texas Guy, built the program, as long as they win 9-10 games a season he will never be fired (not high enough expectations). Same goes for Jimbo why leave a place where you typically only worry about Clemson?

Yeah, but he almost went out of his way to be out in public. Took all kinds of pictures with fans, knowing they would be posted on social media.

He's either opening up to this idea or he's being a jerk and jackin with our heads. Either way he knows what he's doing.

So you're saying there is no way an AD who was already looking to improve football if Butch didn't step up and Gruden who knew how MNF schedule in advance, could have setup a day for him to come to Knoxville for family and a pulse check. I think the realistic Vols fans knew this season was gonna be solid or terrible, Currie would have seen that too.

Also, who is to say Gruden didn't plan to come see his son, relax before MNF, and Currie is said something like, "Make some time for a quick chat." Who hasn't had a meeting popup short notice?

Maybe you misunderstood me. I believe 100% that discussions between the parties took place. I'm just saying that the visit itself was planned unrelated to a coaching search.

Personal opinion. When he said before the time wasn't right it was more personal. His son was in HS. Now that he's at UT what Dad doesn't want to be close to their kids. Now the time is right. Just a matter of $$.

He dipped his toe in the water this weekend and surveyed the property. Whatever is going on behind the scenes is obviously a big deal and Butch wants out and has probably told Currie he wants out. If not, I don't think Gruden would have been near as public here in the current atmosphere because it would have been a jerk thing to do to Butch.

Just think of all the money we wasted on Dooley and Butch. And the millions spent on buyouts from Fulmer to Butch. We have nothing to show for it. $8 million for a winning coach is a bargain.

Is there any time besides Bama that actually wants a spot in the playoff this year. Damn they are dropping like flies!

I get all that. But a tougher pull than Gruden?!?!

Despite his recent success, he is still at only the 3rd, maybe 4th, most prominent football school in his state. There are probably high school stadiums in Texas that seat more people than the one he plays in. Based off a couple years ago, he may also realize that there are some situations in which a one loss SEC, Big X, ACC, or PAC X program could get into the playoffs ahead of an undefeated TCU. He was quoted in a recent article as saying that there are 5 or 6 jobs he would consider leaving TCU for. Plus, he was apparently interested in the UT job in 2008.

Not saying your wrong, or that will even get the guy, but would you really say he's a tougher pull than Gruden?
