Jack Arute lobbying for Fulmer and wearing Hart out and talking about how good a job Tn is and how he has mishandled the hire. Arute laughed about Strongs name to Tn saying Tn could do better.

If we can't hire a coach because Hart believes we should match Vandy in average gpa I'm going to stab someone...

Hargis was all over the place Friday defending his article and then has gone totally quiet on the issue. Me thinks somebody was promised an exclusive if he backed off the trail for a while.

First post here. I've been telling everyone for weeks it's Gruden. But I do have one lingering question I hope to get some feedback on: Why would Gruden want to take a job that a bunch of middle tier coaches have turned down? His reputation means everything to him and he's an egomaniac. It seems like he would only want a job that was universally known to be the best? Does accepting the TN job make him look like he settled for a job?

i don't think it makes him look like he settled for just some job. i think it would look more like him making a statement that UT is still a great place to be. gbo!

You took the words right out of my mouth.

I find it odd that Strong, Gundy, and Fedora have all turned us down...I don't see us getting turned down by our top 3 targets.

My husband is a high school coach in the Chattanooga area. When I called him yesterday to tell him about the Grider article/connection he told me that Grider had been at the school on Tuesday meeting with their athletic director. This is absolute fact.

Here is my thoughts. Tennessee, as I understand, does not have a spot open in the AD(for a high school coach in a liason role) so they would have to free up a position. You give Hart the direction the boosters want to go, but somewhere in the negotiations, something goes wrong(I.E. $ for assistants). Hart, with his ego, goes rogue and ends the dream by leaking that Gruden's agent said somethings about UT. His thinking was that he could muster the fan base and find a good hire and then he would convince the boosters that it was a good hire and save the day. The boosters, not happy, decide to put out to the agents that Tennessee job is not up to Hart, and let Hart go around trying to hire a head coach. All the agents decide it's a money heyday and get all their clients a raise. Then, Strong enters the picture. A good hire with no agent. This is the one that is gonna be close. I really do believe that Hart offered the job, but once he did, "someone" let him no that the job was not available. That leaves Hart looking like he has failed at the coaching search, and failed at his job. Terms for dismissal. Then in steps CPF as AD, and Gruden can pick his Assistant AD, like coaches from High Schools as liasons, and Gruden becomes HC with a monster staff. Just an observation and should be taken as MY opinion. I am no one, just a VFL hoping for Gruden!!

Here's an idea, do you guys think it's plausible at all?

Assume that the UTAD decided they wanted Petrino. They knew it would be a very controversial hire among the UT fan and donor base. Then, when the situation looked its bleakest, they announce a back-end loaded deal with Petrino with a strong morals clause and a huge buyout. That would certainly quiet the rumblings about his personal failings.

I was thinking the same thing... could also apply to bringing Fulmer back. People are already clamoring for Fulmer.

That is a concern of mine as well.

Is the publicized rejection enough to sway a perhaps once-committed Gruden. He may not want to be seen with an ugly fat chick.

I understand what your saying, but it still amounts to (effectively) reverse collusion. My booster calls your booster and says our AD can afford to offer up to x amount, and if your guy says yes, we'll hire him. But we really don't want him, so how 'bout you match that number or go a little higher and we'll both be happy. That's manipulating "market" rates for an outcome which is collusion (which is definitely unethical, if not illegal). I'm not suggesting this isn't what happened. I just find it very unsettling that it could have been "played" this way.

For that to happen, our boosters and our AD would have be on the same page. I don't think they are. This seems like there is a lot of internal leveraging going on as well.
